NIBAF Pakistan Conducts Laws Related To SBP Module For SBOTS-28 Officers

NIBAF Pakistan conducted a specialized legal and regulatory training module on “Laws Related to SBP” for officers participating in the State Bank Officers Training Scheme (SBOTS-28). The session was held on September 18, 2026, at NIBAF Pakistan’s Islamabad Campus and focused on the legal framework governing the operations, responsibilities and regulatory functions of the State Bank of Pakistan.

The module was designed to provide trainee officers with a detailed understanding of key laws and statutory provisions relevant to central banking. The session was facilitated by Ms. Samreena Shah, Legal Officer at the Legal Services Department (LSD) of the State Bank of Pakistan, who led the participants through the legal and regulatory areas included in the programme.

A central part of the session covered the State Bank of Pakistan Act, which provides the statutory framework for the central bank and defines various aspects of its mandate and functions. Understanding the provisions of the Act is relevant for trainee officers as they prepare for professional responsibilities involving monetary and financial-sector functions within the central banking environment.

The training also addressed the Banking Companies Ordinance and its relevance to the regulation and supervision of banking companies. The legal framework provides the basis for several regulatory functions involving banks and financial institutions, making familiarity with its provisions an important component of the professional preparation of SBOTS participants.

Regulatory enforcement powers were another area covered during the session. The module provided participants with an understanding of the legal authority available to the State Bank in carrying out its regulatory responsibilities. The discussion also covered legal protections and statutory mandates associated with the central bank’s role in maintaining the stability and integrity of the financial system.

The programme formed part of the broader State Bank Officers Training Scheme, through which trainee officers receive structured professional education covering different aspects of central banking. Legal and regulatory knowledge is an important part of this training, as officers may be required to interpret and apply statutory provisions in the course of their future responsibilities.

The session also connected the legal framework with wider financial-sector objectives, including financial stability and monetary integrity. By developing familiarity with the laws governing the central bank and banking companies, the training provides participants with a foundation for understanding the regulatory environment in which Pakistan’s banking and financial system operates.

NIBAF Pakistan continues to conduct specialized training programmes for banking and financial-sector professionals through its campuses and institutional learning initiatives. The SBOTS-28 module on laws related to the State Bank of Pakistan adds a legal and regulatory component to the professional development of trainee officers preparing for careers within the central banking system.
