BankIslami has appointed Nisar Ahmed, the World Muay Federation (WMF) Pro-Am Muay Thai World Champion, as its official brand ambassador, establishing a partnership focused on sports promotion, youth engagement and community development across Pakistan. The agreement was formalised during a signing ceremony at the bank’s headquarters in Karachi, attended by members of its senior leadership. Through the partnership, BankIslami aims to support an emerging Pakistani athlete whose achievements have brought recognition to the country in international combat sports. Nisar Ahmed will represent the bank in its marketing campaigns, community initiatives and youth engagement activities nationwide, linking the institution’s public outreach with the promotion of sporting talent.
Nisar Ahmed comes from Killa Abdullah in Balochistan, where he developed his career through years of training and competition before entering the international sporting circuit. In 2024, he became the first Pakistani to win the WMF Pro-Amateur World Muay Thai title in Bangkok. His achievements also include four gold medals at the National Kickboxing Championships, alongside several other national and international honours. His sporting record provides the foundation for the new partnership, with BankIslami highlighting his journey as an example of talent emerging from outside Pakistan’s major urban centres. The appointment also brings greater attention to combat sports, where athletes often require sustained training, competitive opportunities and institutional support to progress to international levels.
The bank said the partnership reflects its commitment to supporting athletes at different stages of their development. As brand ambassador, Ahmed is expected to participate in campaigns and activities designed to connect the institution with young people and communities across the country. Such partnerships can provide athletes with a broader public platform while allowing organisations to associate their brands with sporting achievements and youth participation. For combat sports competitors, support from established institutions may also help raise awareness of their disciplines and encourage more young people to explore organised training. The announcement did not specify the financial terms or duration of the agreement, but it identified sports promotion and youth engagement as central elements of the collaboration.
Imran H Shaikh, President and Chief Executive Officer of BankIslami, said Pakistan had considerable talent across the country and described Ahmed’s journey from Killa Abdullah to becoming a world champion as a reflection of that potential. He said the bank was honoured to support the athlete and expressed its intention to stand behind him as he continued representing Pakistan internationally. The statement places the sponsorship within the bank’s broader interest in recognising emerging talent and supporting activities that can inspire younger generations. Ahmed’s background and achievements also provide an opportunity to draw attention to athletes from regions that may receive less visibility in national sports coverage.
Ahmed said representing Pakistan on the international stage was an honour and a responsibility he carried into every fight. He also highlighted the potential for further development in Pakistani combat sports, noting that young fighters across the country were seeking opportunities to pursue their goals. He welcomed BankIslami’s support and expressed interest in working with the institution to encourage more young people to participate in the sport. His comments underline the role that sponsorship and public recognition can play in increasing awareness of combat sports, particularly among young people who may be interested in pursuing competitive careers but have limited access to established sporting networks.
For BankIslami, the agreement adds a sports-focused dimension to its engagement with communities and young audiences. Brand ambassador partnerships allow companies to communicate their priorities through individuals whose achievements and public profiles align with particular themes. In this case, Ahmed’s international title and national kickboxing record provide a connection to athletic discipline, competition and youth participation. The planned campaigns and community activities could create opportunities to introduce more people to combat sports, although the impact will depend on the reach and implementation of those activities. The partnership also places an individual athlete at the centre of the bank’s public-facing efforts to recognise Pakistani talent.
The bank linked the partnership to its wider work supporting youth, sports and community development across Pakistan, in line with its stated mission of “Saving Humanity from Riba.” Ahmed’s appointment brings together an Islamic financial institution and a champion whose career reflects sustained sporting effort and international competition. While the announcement does not outline specific programmes, training facilities or funding arrangements for other athletes, it establishes a platform through which the bank and its ambassador intend to promote sporting participation. The collaboration highlights the potential role of corporate support in raising the profile of athletes and encouraging young people to pursue opportunities in organised sports, including disciplines such as Muay Thai and kickboxing.
