Meezan Bank Approves Rs31.45 Billion Housing Finance Under Ghar Ho Tu Apna

Meezan Bank has approved more than Rs31.45 billion in housing finance across 4,424 applications under the Government of Pakistan’s Wazir-e-Azam Apna Ghar Programme, also known as Ghar Ho Tu Apna. The development highlights the growing demand for affordable and Shariah compliant housing finance in Pakistan and reflects the bank’s participation in the government’s efforts to expand access to home financing.

According to Meezan Bank, the approved applications represent a substantial financing pipeline that is expected to translate into additional disbursements as customers complete property selection, documentation and other required procedures. The approved amount covers thousands of applications from customers seeking financing under the government’s housing programme, with the next phase dependent on completion of the necessary formalities.

Meezan Bank has already crossed Rs4 billion in cumulative disbursements under the programme. The financing has supported around 650 families, helping them move closer to home ownership. The bank said the progress demonstrates continued customer interest in housing finance and its ability to facilitate applicants through the financing process.

The pace of disbursements increased significantly during August 2026. Meezan Bank disbursed approximately Rs2.2 billion during the month alone, which represented more than half of its cumulative disbursements under the programme to date. The strong monthly performance indicates that a significant portion of the approved financing pipeline is moving toward actual disbursement as customers complete property selection and documentation requirements.

Ahmed Ali Siddiqui, Group Head Consumer Finance at Meezan Bank, said the approval of more than Rs31.5 billion across over 4,400 applications demonstrates significant demand for affordable and Shariah compliant housing finance in Pakistan. He noted that with more than Rs4 billion already disbursed and around 650 families supported, the bank’s focus is now on converting the approved financing pipeline into home ownership for thousands of additional customers.

The Ghar Ho Tu Apna programme is aimed at improving access to affordable housing finance for eligible customers. Meezan Bank’s participation provides customers with Shariah compliant financing options while supporting the broader government objective of expanding home ownership opportunities. The bank continues to process applications and work with customers as they complete the requirements necessary for financing disbursement.

Meezan Bank said it remains committed to supporting the government’s objective of increasing access to affordable housing. The bank’s housing finance operations are focused on helping eligible customers move from financing approval toward property acquisition and eventual home ownership, subject to the completion of required documentation and procedures.

The latest figures place Meezan Bank’s approved housing finance pipeline significantly above the amount already disbursed under the programme. With Rs31.45 billion approved across 4,424 applications and more than Rs4 billion already disbursed, the bank is positioned to support further housing finance activity as customers complete the remaining requirements. The August disbursement of approximately Rs2.2 billion also highlights the recent acceleration in financing activity under Ghar Ho Tu Apna.
