Meezan Bank Completes Full Payments Migration to SmartVista Platform

Meezan Bank has migrated its entire payments business to BPC’s SmartVista platform, moving 7.5 million active cards, its merchant network and payment processing operations onto a single system. The transition brings several payment services under one platform, including card transactions, point-of-sale payments, e-commerce, quick response (QR) payments, payment gateway services, fraud management and instant payments. The move is intended to strengthen the bank’s digital payments infrastructure and provide the processing capacity required to support the continued expansion of electronic transactions in Pakistan.

The migration covers payment services used by Meezan Bank’s cardholders and merchants across the country. By consolidating these operations on SmartVista, the bank has brought multiple payment channels into a unified processing environment. This includes transactions made through physical cards and merchant terminals, online purchases, QR-based payments and services supporting instant transfers. Bringing these functions together can help a bank manage payment operations more consistently, although the platform’s effectiveness will depend on its performance, reliability and ability to support rising transaction volumes.

According to the information provided by the bank, SmartVista can process more than 1,500 transactions per second during peak periods. This capacity is relevant as banks handle growing volumes of digital payments across different channels. Meezan Bank also processes around two million Raast transactions daily and operates a network of more than 100,000 QR codes. These figures highlight the scale of the bank’s digital payment activity and the need for infrastructure capable of managing high transaction volumes while maintaining service availability.

Raast, Pakistan’s instant payment system, enables digital transfers between participating financial institutions. Its growing use has increased the importance of reliable payment processing for banks and their customers. Meezan Bank’s daily Raast transaction volume demonstrates the role instant payments play in its digital services. Integrating payment operations through SmartVista is intended to support this activity alongside card payments, merchant transactions and other digital channels. The bank’s QR network also provides another route for customers and merchants to make and receive digital payments without relying exclusively on traditional card-based transactions.

The platform also includes fraud management capabilities, an important component of digital payment operations. As electronic transactions expand, banks need systems to process legitimate payments efficiently while identifying suspicious activity. Fraud monitoring and payment security must operate alongside transaction speed and customer convenience. SmartVista’s fraud protection capabilities are intended to support Meezan Bank’s payment services as it continues to serve cardholders, merchants and digital banking customers across its network.

Faiz ur Rehman, Group Head of Information Technology at Meezan Bank, said the migration would support continued growth in the bank’s card business, merchant services, digital payments and Raast activity. He stated that the transition was completed through coordination between the bank’s teams and BPC while maintaining operational continuity. Keeping services available during a large-scale migration is important because payment processing supports routine purchases, online transactions and business operations. Disruptions can affect both customers and merchants, making coordination and continuity important considerations during the transition.

Ali Imran Khan, Chief Information Officer at Meezan Bank, said the migration was intended to strengthen the bank’s digital payments infrastructure and support future growth. He added that the platform would handle payment processing across the bank’s channels while maintaining continuity during the changeover. The consolidation gives the bank a common platform for its covered payment operations, providing a foundation for managing current services and responding to future demand.

Furrukh Ali-Baig, Managing Director for Pakistan, Nepal and Iraq at BPC, said SmartVista offers payment processing capacity, fraud protection and instant payment capabilities to support Meezan Bank’s digital services. BPC provides the technology platform, while Meezan Bank uses it to process payments across its card, merchant and digital channels. The migration reflects cooperation between a major Pakistani bank and a technology provider to upgrade the systems supporting everyday financial transactions.

For Pakistan’s banking sector, the move highlights the growing importance of modern payment infrastructure as customers increasingly use digital channels for purchases and transfers. Banks must support multiple payment methods while managing transaction volumes, security risks and service reliability. A consolidated platform can provide a common processing environment for these services, although the long-term benefits will depend on operational performance and how effectively the bank uses the system as its digital business expands.

Meezan Bank’s migration of 7.5 million active cards and its merchant and payment processing operations marks a substantial technology transition for its payments business. With capacity exceeding 1,500 transactions per second during peak periods, alongside significant daily Raast activity and a network of more than 100,000 QR codes, the platform is intended to support the bank’s growing digital payment requirements. The transition places payment processing, merchant services and fraud management within one system, giving the bank a consolidated technological base for its continued digital expansion.
