NIBAF Pakistan Conducts Five-Day Islamic Banking Professional Development Program in Karachi

NIBAF Pakistan has completed a five-day training program focused on professional development in Islamic banking for commercial bank officers at its Karachi campus. The Islamic Banking Professional Development (IBPD-57) program was held from September 21 to 25, 2026, and covered areas including Shariah contracts, Islamic banking products, risk mitigation and the supervisory framework applicable to Islamic banking institutions.

The programme was organised at NIBAF Pakistan’s Karachi Campus and was aimed at commercial banking officers seeking to strengthen their understanding of Islamic banking practices. The five-day format provided participants with structured sessions covering key technical areas relevant to the operation and oversight of Islamic financial products and services.

A central part of the training focused on Shariah contracts and the mechanics of Islamic banking products. Understanding the underlying contracts is important for banking professionals involved in the structuring, delivery and management of Shariah-compliant financial products. The programme also addressed product mechanics, giving participants an opportunity to examine how Islamic banking products operate within their relevant contractual and regulatory structures.

Risk mitigation was another area covered during IBPD-57. Banking officers were provided with insights into approaches used to identify and manage risks associated with Islamic banking activities. The inclusion of risk management in the professional development programme reflects the importance of maintaining appropriate controls while offering financial products within the Islamic banking framework.

The training also covered the supervisory framework of the State Bank of Pakistan for Islamic banking institutions. Familiarity with the central bank’s supervisory requirements is relevant for commercial bank officers working in Islamic banking operations, as institutions must operate within applicable regulatory and supervisory requirements alongside the principles governing Shariah-compliant finance.

The programme was facilitated by a panel of expert trainers, with the sessions structured around the professional requirements of commercial banking officers. By bringing together topics related to Shariah contracts, product structures, risk management and regulatory supervision, the programme provided participants with a broad overview of technical areas relevant to Islamic banking operations.

NIBAF Pakistan said the training forms part of its efforts to strengthen technical expertise and human capital within the Islamic financial sector. Professional development programmes of this nature provide banking personnel with opportunities to build knowledge of specialised financial products and the regulatory requirements governing their activities.

The completion of IBPD-57 adds to NIBAF Pakistan’s training activities for banking professionals and reflects the continuing focus on developing specialised skills within Islamic finance. The programme concluded on September 25 after five days of sessions at the Karachi campus, with commercial banking officers forming the programme’s target audience.
