Pakistan Exports to Kenya Rise 32% as Trade Expands Across East Africa

Pakistan’s export performance to Kenya has recorded strong growth during the first nine months of fiscal year 2025–26, reflecting expanding trade linkages between South Asia and East Africa and increasing diversification in Pakistan’s export base.

According to official data from the Ministry of Commerce’s Trade Analytics Portal, exports from Pakistan to Kenya reached $319.9 million during the July–March period of FY26. This represents a 32 percent increase compared to $251.6 million recorded during the same period in the previous fiscal year, marking one of the most notable expansions in Pakistan’s Africa-focused trade performance. With this increase, Kenya has emerged as one of Pakistan’s top five global export destinations and remains its largest trading partner in the African region. The growth highlights strengthening bilateral commercial relations and improved market access for Pakistani exporters in East Africa.

Industry representatives attribute much of this expansion to increased shipments of rice, which continues to be a leading export commodity. Exporters note that efficient logistical access through the Port of Mombasa has played a critical role in facilitating trade flows, not only into Kenya but also into surrounding regional markets. The Port of Mombasa serves as a strategic gateway for East African trade, enabling Pakistani goods to reach multiple landlocked and coastal economies, including Uganda, South Sudan, and Rwanda. This regional distribution network has significantly broadened Pakistan’s export footprint beyond a single-country market structure.

Alongside rice, Pakistan’s export basket to Kenya has become increasingly diversified. Key categories now include used clothing, pharmaceuticals, textiles, garments, sports goods, information technology services, software solutions, and renewable energy products such as solar equipment. This diversification reflects a gradual shift toward higher value-added and technology-linked exports.

Trade stakeholders have emphasized that the inclusion of IT services and software solutions marks a notable development in Pakistan’s export profile, indicating growing integration of digital services into traditional trade flows. Renewable energy products, particularly solar-related technologies, are also gaining traction in response to rising energy demand and sustainability-focused investments in the region.

Rafique Suleman, President of the Pakistan Kenya Business Council and former Chairman of the Rice Exporters Association of Pakistan, described the growth trend as encouraging, noting that multiple export segments are contributing to overall expansion. He highlighted that improved logistics, particularly through Mombasa, have enhanced regional connectivity and market reach.

He also acknowledged the role of government and diplomatic engagement in supporting trade development. Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan has been credited for policy-level facilitation, while Pakistan’s High Commissioner to Kenya Ibrahim Khan and Commercial Counsellor Adila Younis have been recognized for strengthening bilateral economic ties. Contributions from industry stakeholders, including senior representatives of the Rice Exporters Association of Pakistan, have also supported exporter engagement and market expansion.

The statement from trade representatives further emphasized the importance of maintaining regional stability and a supportive policy environment to sustain export growth. They noted that consistent diplomatic engagement and stable trade facilitation frameworks remain essential for long-term commercial expansion in African markets. Looking ahead, the Pakistan Kenya Business Council and associated industry bodies have reaffirmed their commitment to supporting exporters and expanding market access. The focus remains on sustaining export momentum, enhancing product diversification, and deepening Pakistan’s trade integration within East Africa’s growing economic landscape.
