Pakistan received workers’ remittances worth $3.66 billion in August 2026, showing a 0.7% increase from the $3.63 billion recorded in July 2026 and a 16.5% rise compared with $3.14 billion in August 2025, according to the latest data released by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP). The latest monthly inflow reflects continued growth in remittances sent by overseas Pakistanis and maintains the strong level of foreign currency inflows recorded during the opening months of the fiscal year. On a two month basis, total remittances reached $7.28 billion, compared with $6.35 billion during the corresponding period of the previous year, representing a substantial increase in funds transferred to Pakistan by workers abroad.
Saudi Arabia remained the largest source of workers’ remittances during August 2026, contributing $873.5 million to Pakistan. The inflow from Saudi Arabia declined 4.4% from $913.9 million in July 2026, but increased 18.6% compared with $736.7 million received in August 2025. Despite the monthly decline, Saudi Arabia continued to hold the leading position among remittance contributing countries. The country remains an important source of foreign currency inflows for Pakistan because of the large number of Pakistani workers employed across different sectors in the Saudi economy.
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) retained its position as the second largest contributor, sending $749.8 million in workers’ remittances during August. The amount was 1.7% higher than the $737.3 million recorded in July and 16.6% above the $642.9 million received in August 2025. Within the UAE, Dubai accounted for $634.6 million of the total, while Abu Dhabi contributed $91.1 million. Sharjah sent $13.2 million, while other emirates accounted for another $10.9 million. The figures show that the UAE continues to represent a significant source of remittance inflows for Pakistan.
The United Kingdom remained in third place among major sources, with workers’ remittances reaching $563.7 million in August 2026. The amount increased 1.5% from $555.5 million in July and rose 21.6% from $463.4 million recorded in August 2025. Remittances from the United States stood at $308.9 million, down 2.3% from $316.3 million in the previous month but 15.6% higher than the $267.3 million received in August 2025. The year on year increases from both the United Kingdom and United States contributed to the overall growth in Pakistan’s remittance inflows during the month.
European Union countries collectively contributed $495.9 million in August, representing a 7.5% monthly increase from $461.4 million and a 14.6% yearly rise from $432.7 million. Italy was the largest contributor among European Union member states, sending $152.9 million, followed by Spain with $89.8 million and Germany with $73.6 million. Greece contributed $56.8 million, France $50.7 million and Ireland $26.1 million. Belgium sent $17.9 million, Sweden $10.7 million, the Netherlands $9.7 million and Denmark $7.9 million during the month.
Other Gulf Cooperation Council countries, excluding Saudi Arabia and the UAE, contributed $326.7 million in August 2026. This was 2.8% lower than the previous month but 7.5% higher than the $303.9 million recorded in August 2025. Oman was the largest contributor from this group with $108.8 million, followed by Qatar with $94.2 million, Kuwait with $74 million and Bahrain with $49.7 million. The combined inflows from Gulf countries continued to represent a major component of Pakistan’s monthly workers’ remittances.
Other countries also contributed to the overall remittance inflows during August. Australia sent $99.3 million, while Canada contributed $65.8 million and South Africa sent $25.3 million. Workers in South Korea transferred $11.6 million, while Norway contributed $11.8 million and Malaysia $12.9 million. Remittances from Japan stood at $6.3 million, Switzerland contributed $3.8 million and other countries collectively sent $101 million. The broad geographic distribution of these inflows supported the overall monthly total of $3.66 billion and helped lift the two month remittance figure to $7.28 billion.
