NIBAF Pakistan has successfully conducted an intensive two day technical module on Forex Management for officers participating in the State Bank Officers Training Scheme (SBOTS-28). The training module was held from September 7 to September 8, 2026, at the NIBAF Pakistan Islamabad Campus and focused on strengthening the technical understanding of foreign exchange management among officer trainees. The programme formed part of the professional training provided to officers under SBOTS-28, with the module designed to provide participants with practical and detailed knowledge of foreign exchange regulations, monitoring mechanisms, trade finance oversight and policy measures relevant to Pakistan’s financial system.
The two day module focused specifically on Forex Management and covered key areas associated with the regulation and supervision of foreign exchange activities. Officer trainees were provided with an in depth understanding of the State Bank of Pakistan’s foreign exchange regulations and the framework governing foreign exchange related activities. The training was intended to strengthen the participants’ understanding of the regulatory requirements they may encounter in their professional responsibilities and provide them with a stronger foundation for assessing foreign exchange related matters within the banking and financial sector.
The programme was facilitated by senior officials from the State Bank of Pakistan. Mr. Saleem Sheikh, Senior Joint Director of the Exchange Policy Department, and Mr. Danish Farooqi, Joint Director of the Exchange Policy Department, served as the facilitators for the technical module. Their involvement brought direct professional experience from the central bank’s Exchange Policy Department into the training programme, allowing the officer trainees to receive instruction on foreign exchange management from officials working in the relevant policy area.
A key component of the module was foreign exchange exposure monitoring, an area that is important for maintaining oversight of foreign currency related positions within the financial system. The officer trainees were provided with knowledge concerning the monitoring of exchange exposure and the mechanisms used to assess foreign exchange related risks. Understanding these areas is particularly relevant for officers preparing for responsibilities within the central banking and financial sector, where foreign exchange activity and exposure can have implications for financial stability and external sector management.
The training also covered trade finance oversight, providing participants with an understanding of the role of regulatory supervision in foreign trade related financial activities. Trade finance is closely connected with cross border transactions and foreign exchange operations, making oversight an important element of financial sector management. Through the module, SBOTS-28 officers were introduced to the regulatory and operational considerations associated with monitoring trade finance activities and ensuring that foreign exchange related operations remain aligned with applicable requirements.
Another important area covered during the technical module was the policy framework used to safeguard Pakistan’s balance of payments. The training provided officer trainees with knowledge of policy mechanisms associated with foreign exchange management and the broader external account position of the country. By covering these policy mechanisms alongside foreign exchange regulations, exposure monitoring and trade finance oversight, the module provided participants with a broad understanding of how different elements of foreign exchange management relate to Pakistan’s financial and external sector.
The completion of the Forex Management module represents another component of the professional development programme for officers enrolled in SBOTS-28. Held at NIBAF Pakistan’s Islamabad Campus over September 7 and 8, the training brought together technical instruction and practical knowledge relevant to foreign exchange management. The participation of officials from the State Bank of Pakistan’s Exchange Policy Department provided trainees with specialized guidance on the regulatory framework, exchange exposure monitoring, trade finance oversight and policy mechanisms connected with the country’s balance of payments.
Through the two day technical module, NIBAF Pakistan provided SBOTS-28 officer trainees with focused training on an area that is central to the functioning of the banking and financial system. The programme covered the regulatory, monitoring, trade finance and policy dimensions of Forex Management, giving participants a detailed foundation for understanding foreign exchange related responsibilities. The module was facilitated by Mr. Saleem Sheikh and Mr. Danish Farooqi of the State Bank of Pakistan’s Exchange Policy Department and was conducted at NIBAF Pakistan’s Islamabad Campus from September 7 to September 8, 2026.
