Zindigi, powered by JS Bank, has launched Zindigi Overseas Accounts, enabling eligible Pakistanis living abroad to open and manage bank accounts in Pakistan entirely through digital channels without requiring a Pakistani mobile number or visiting a physical bank branch. The new service is designed to make banking more accessible for overseas Pakistanis by removing traditional onboarding barriers and allowing customers to establish a financial connection with Pakistan from wherever they reside. The launch represents another step in Zindigi’s efforts to expand digital banking services beyond geographical boundaries.
Through the new facility, eligible overseas Pakistanis can register using their existing international WhatsApp numbers and open a digital bank account that comes with an International Bank Account Number (IBAN). Unlike a conventional digital wallet, the service provides customers with a bank account structure that can support a range of local financial activities. The digital onboarding process is intended to simplify account opening for Pakistanis who may otherwise face difficulties accessing banking services in their home country while living overseas.
The accounts are designed to address the everyday financial needs of Pakistanis living abroad who continue to maintain financial responsibilities in Pakistan. Customers can use the Zindigi App to support family members, pay utility bills, manage household expenses and make local transfers. The service allows users to handle these financial commitments remotely, reducing the need to rely on physical visits or traditional banking arrangements for routine transactions.
The digital account opening facility is available to eligible individuals holding a Pakistan Origin Card (POC), National Identity Card for Overseas Pakistanis (NICOP), or Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC). These identification documents provide the basis for verifying applicants during the digital onboarding process. By accepting international mobile numbers for registration, Zindigi aims to make the account opening experience more convenient for customers who no longer use Pakistani SIM cards while residing abroad.
Customers can select between two account categories based on their financial requirements and applicable regulatory conditions. These include the Non-Resident Account Repatriable (NRAR) and Non-Resident Account Non-Repatriable (NRAN). The availability of both options gives overseas customers a choice in how they maintain and manage their funds in Pakistan, subject to the rules governing each account type.
Commenting on the launch, Noman Azhar, Co-Founder and Chief Officer of Zindigi by JS Bank, said the initiative reflects the company’s vision of making banking simpler, more accessible and borderless for Pakistanis. He stated that geographical boundaries should not limit access to financial services and highlighted the importance of enabling overseas Pakistanis to open and manage accounts digitally through their international mobile numbers. According to Azhar, the service is intended to bring banking closer to millions of Pakistanis who live in other countries but remain financially and personally connected to Pakistan.
The launch adds to the growing range of digital banking services targeting customers who require convenient access to financial services across borders. For overseas Pakistanis, the ability to maintain a local bank account through a mobile application can help simplify payments, family support and household financial management without requiring regular visits to Pakistan.
Zindigi said the initiative reinforces its commitment to transforming banking through digital innovation and removing traditional barriers to financial access. By enabling eligible customers to open IBAN-based accounts without a Pakistani SIM or branch visit, the service seeks to make essential banking facilities more accessible to Pakistanis worldwide while strengthening their financial connection with the country.
