NIBAF Pakistan Completes Second Mid-Career Management Development Program for SBP Officers

NIBAF Pakistan has concluded the second iteration of its Mid-Career Management Development Program (MMDP), completing a three-week management and leadership training initiative for mid-level officers from the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), SBP Banking Services Corporation (SBP-BSC) and NIBAF Pakistan. The programme ended on October 31, 2026, with a closing and certificate distribution ceremony held at NIBAF Pakistan’s Karachi Campus. The initiative focused on strengthening management capabilities, developing institutional leadership and preparing officers to take on responsibilities involving strategic decision-making and public sector governance.

The second iteration of MMDP ran from October 12 to October 31, 2026, bringing together officers from three central banking institutions for an intensive development programme. Its participants represented organisations that play important roles in monetary and financial sector operations, banking services and professional training. By bringing officers from these institutions into a shared learning environment, the programme provided an opportunity to develop management knowledge, exchange professional experiences and strengthen understanding of the leadership challenges faced by public sector and central banking organisations.

The closing ceremony was attended by Ms. Lubna Farooq Malik, Chief Executive Officer of NIBAF Pakistan, who distributed certificates of completion to the participating officers. She also commended their commitment and dedication to developing leadership capabilities and improving their understanding of public sector governance. The ceremony marked the completion of the programme’s second iteration and recognised the participants’ engagement throughout the three-week training period.

The programme covered several areas considered important for officers working in management and leadership positions. These included strategic decision-making, policy formulation, organisational change management, cross-functional leadership and operational execution. Together, these subjects addressed the responsibilities that mid-career professionals may encounter when contributing to institutional planning, managing teams, implementing organisational priorities and supporting policy-related work.

Strategic decision-making was among the central areas of the programme. Officers working in financial and public sector institutions must often assess complex information, consider institutional priorities and make decisions within established regulatory and operational frameworks. Developing these capabilities can help managers evaluate different courses of action, understand potential consequences and align their decisions with broader organisational objectives. Training in this area is particularly relevant for institutions operating in an environment where economic conditions, financial regulations and public expectations continue to evolve.

Policy formulation was another important component of the training. Officers involved in policy-related responsibilities need to understand how institutional objectives are translated into practical frameworks and operational measures. This requires the ability to assess available information, identify relevant challenges and consider how proposed policies may affect different departments and stakeholders. By including policy formulation in its curriculum, MMDP aimed to strengthen participants’ understanding of the processes that support institutional planning and implementation.

The programme also addressed organisational change management, a subject that has become increasingly relevant as financial institutions adapt their systems, working methods and service delivery arrangements. Changes in technology, regulatory requirements and internal processes can affect how organisations operate. Managers therefore need to understand how to guide teams through transitions, coordinate responsibilities and maintain operational continuity while new approaches are introduced. Developing these skills can support institutions as they respond to changing requirements and work towards improving internal effectiveness.

Cross-functional leadership and operational execution further expanded the programme’s management focus. Modern institutions depend on coordination between departments with different responsibilities, making communication and collaboration important for achieving organisational targets. Managers must be able to work across departmental boundaries, clarify responsibilities and ensure that institutional plans are translated into practical action. The inclusion of these areas provided participants with exposure to leadership and execution challenges that extend beyond individual departmental functions.

NIBAF Pakistan conducted the programme with guidance from a panel of expert trainers, who supported the participants’ learning across the different management subjects. The training structure brought together officers from the State Bank of Pakistan, SBP Banking Services Corporation and NIBAF Pakistan, allowing them to engage with shared institutional and leadership issues. Such professional development initiatives can also encourage the exchange of experiences among officers working in different parts of the central banking system.

The completion of the second MMDP iteration reflects NIBAF Pakistan’s continuing focus on professional education and human capital development across central banking institutions. As financial organisations manage increasingly complex responsibilities, the capabilities of their management teams remain important to effective operations, policy implementation and institutional governance. Programmes designed for mid-career officers can help strengthen these capabilities by providing structured learning opportunities and exposure to key management practices.

Through initiatives such as MMDP, NIBAF Pakistan continues to support the development of institutional leadership and management skills among professionals serving in Pakistan’s central banking environment. The graduation of the second batch on October 31 marked the end of the latest training cycle, with participating officers receiving certificates in recognition of their successful completion of the programme.
