Meezan Bank has entered into a strategic service agreement with Lahore-based financial services provider Abbasi & Company Private Limited to set up a specialized Islamic Brokerage Window. Under this corporate arrangement, Meezan Bank through its dedicated Shariah Advisory Unit will deliver comprehensive governance, technical structuring, and compliance oversight to enable the brokerage firm to offer fully Shariah-compliant equity trading and investment facilities. The agreement was formally executed at a signing ceremony by Asim Ahsan, General Manager and Corporate Head for Central Corporate, Investment Banking, and Shariah Advisory Group at Meezan Bank, and Syed Muhammad Ismail Abbasi, Chief Executive Officer of Abbasi & Company Private Limited.
The collaboration establishes a formal operational structure designed to broaden investor access to ethical and faith-based capital market products across Pakistan. By combining the Shariah advisory capacity of Pakistan premier Islamic bank with the retail and institutional trading channels of Abbasi & Company, the initiative aims to expand the range of certified Islamic financial tools available on the Pakistan Stock Exchange. The introduction of the Islamic Brokerage Window will permit individual and corporate investors to execute stock transactions, manage investment portfolios, and access equity research using mechanisms that adhere strictly to Islamic financial principles.
Under the terms of the engagement, the Shariah Advisory Unit of Meezan Bank will provide ongoing guidance regarding business processes, stock screening criteria, margin trading structures, and profit-sharing models. This includes reviewing trade execution workflows, establishing transaction protocols, and providing regular compliance audits to guarantee that all brokerage operations line up with established Islamic jurisprudence. Financial institutions expanding into Shariah-compliant segments require rigorous supervisory frameworks to maintain public trust and satisfy regulatory standards set by financial regulators.
The partnership comes at a time when demand for Islamic capital market instruments continues to grow rapidly among domestic and diaspora investors seeking certified alternative investment vehicles. Traditional brokerage firms are increasingly seeking partnerships with established Islamic banking institutions to fulfill market demand for non-interest-based trading solutions. By integrating Shariah-compliant clearing, settlement, and advisory models into existing brokerage platforms, financial services firms can capture untapped liquidity and onboard investors who previously avoided conventional stock market participation due to religious considerations.
This joint effort highlights the expanding role of Meezan Bank as an institutional enabler within the broader national financial ecosystem. Beyond providing core retail and corporate banking services, the institution actively assists non-banking financial companies, asset management firms, brokerage houses, and insurance providers in setting up dedicated Islamic windows. Through structured technical assistance and governance frameworks, the bank works to accelerate the conversion of conventional financial channels into Shariah-compliant alternatives, supporting the long-term growth and stability of the national financial sector.
The initiative also aligns with overarching economic objectives in Pakistan aimed at deepening capital markets, increasing domestic retail investor participation, and promoting formal financial channels. Providing transparent, accessible, and regulated equity investment options helps channel personal savings into productive corporate investments. As implementation progresses, Meezan Bank and Abbasi & Company will work together to launch the Islamic Brokerage Window, roll out investor education initiatives, and deliver structured financial products to clients across regional business centers.
