Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has welcomed Moody’s decision to upgrade Pakistan’s sovereign credit rating from Caa1 to B3, describing the development as an encouraging sign of improving confidence in the country’s economic policies and reform programme. The Prime Minister congratulated the nation on the improvement and said the upgraded rating reflected the progress made in stabilizing the economy and strengthening Pakistan’s external sector. The development comes as the government continues to implement measures aimed at improving economic stability and establishing stronger foundations for sustainable growth.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif appreciated the efforts of the government’s economic team and acknowledged the contributions of senior officials and ministers involved in the country’s economic reform efforts. He specifically praised Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Muhammad Ishaq Dar, Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, along with other relevant federal ministers and officials for their role in supporting measures aimed at improving Pakistan’s economic position and restoring confidence in the country’s financial outlook.
The Prime Minister said the improvement in Pakistan’s credit rating demonstrates increasing global confidence in the government’s economic policies and reforms. According to him, recognition from international financial institutions and credit rating agencies regarding the improvement in Pakistan’s economic conditions is a positive development for the country. The upgraded rating indicates that Pakistan’s economic position has shown progress compared with the circumstances reflected in its previous Caa1 rating, while the government continues to focus on maintaining stability and addressing key economic challenges.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said Pakistan’s economy is moving toward greater stability and described the improvement in the country’s rating by international institutions as evidence of the progress achieved through the government’s economic measures. He maintained that the government has taken effective steps to stabilize the economy and improve the external sector, which remains an important component of Pakistan’s overall economic position. Strengthening external sector conditions is particularly significant for maintaining confidence in the country’s ability to manage its external financial obligations and improve its economic outlook.
The Prime Minister further said that global confidence in Pakistan is increasing as a result of the government’s continued efforts and reform measures. He emphasized that the government would not stop at the progress already achieved and would instead accelerate the reform process to place the economy on sustainable foundations. The administration’s approach, according to the Prime Minister, is focused on maintaining economic stability while continuing structural reforms that can support stronger economic performance over the longer term.
The Moody’s rating upgrade represents a notable development for Pakistan’s sovereign credit profile, particularly as the government seeks to improve international investor confidence and strengthen the country’s economic standing. Credit ratings are closely monitored by international investors, financial institutions and other market participants because they provide an assessment of a country’s ability to meet its financial obligations and manage economic and fiscal risks. An improvement in Pakistan’s rating can therefore contribute to a more positive perception of the country’s economic direction.
The Prime Minister linked the rating improvement with the government’s broader economic reform agenda, including measures aimed at stabilizing the economy and strengthening external sector performance. He said the recognition from international institutions provides encouragement for the government to continue with its reform programme. The government is expected to maintain its focus on economic management and structural measures as it works toward improving Pakistan’s financial position and creating conditions for sustainable economic development.
The Prime Minister also reiterated the government’s long term objective of transforming Pakistan into a stronger and more self reliant economy. He said the ultimate goal is to build a strong, self reliant and sustainable economic system that can withstand external pressures and provide a stable foundation for future growth. The government views continued reforms and economic stabilization as essential to achieving this objective.
The upgrade from Caa1 to B3 adds to the government’s recent efforts to highlight improvements in Pakistan’s economic indicators and international financial standing. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said the development should be viewed as a reflection of the collective efforts of the government’s economic team and relevant institutions. He maintained that the government would continue working to strengthen economic stability, improve external sector conditions and accelerate reforms aimed at placing Pakistan’s economy on sustainable foundations.
