Finance Minister and Asyad Group CEO Discuss Expanding Saudi Investment in Pakistan

Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Muhammad Aurangzeb held discussions with Asyad Group Chief Executive Officer Ghassan Ahmed Amodi on expanding the Saudi group’s investment presence in Pakistan and identifying new opportunities across key sectors. The meeting focused on Asyad Group’s existing investments, plans for further expansion and potential participation in projects linked to the government’s ongoing privatisation programme.

The meeting was attended by Asyad Group Chief Financial Officer Javaid Akhtar, Wafi Energy Pakistan Limited Chief Executive Officer Zubair Shaikh and Corporate and Government Relations Director Imran Hussain Qureshi. The officials discussed the group’s investment portfolio in Pakistan and examined areas where additional capital and business activity could be directed.

Amodi reaffirmed Asyad Group’s commitment to Pakistan as a long-term investment destination. He said Pakistan holds an important position within the group’s investment portfolio outside Saudi Arabia and expressed satisfaction with its experience in the country. He also outlined the group’s intention to strengthen its existing presence and explore additional opportunities in the Pakistani market.

A key area discussed during the meeting was Pakistan’s airport privatisation programme. Amodi briefed the finance minister on Asyad Group’s interest in participating in the upcoming airport privatisation process. According to the discussion, the group is working on bringing together Saudi and international partners with the technical expertise required to potentially participate in the process.

The airport privatisation programme was discussed as part of the government’s broader efforts to attract private sector participation and foreign investment into commercially viable projects. Muhammad Aurangzeb welcomed the continued interest of Saudi investors and highlighted opportunities emerging through the government’s privatisation drive. He emphasised the importance of attracting credible, long-term investors capable of supporting projects that can contribute to sustained economic activity.

The expansion plans of Wafi Energy Pakistan Limited were also discussed during the meeting. Company officials briefed the finance minister on plans involving the expansion of the company’s retail network, storage infrastructure and digitalisation initiatives. The officials also shared details of investments already made in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and other parts of Pakistan, along with plans to expand operations further.

Wafi Energy’s planned expansion is expected to involve several areas of its existing business operations, including retail infrastructure and storage facilities. The company also highlighted digitalisation as part of its future development plans, reflecting efforts to strengthen its operational capabilities as its presence in Pakistan grows.

Beyond its existing portfolio, Asyad Group is exploring further investment opportunities in Pakistan, including potential activity in the financial sector. The group is also seeking to facilitate connections between Saudi and Pakistani investors for possible joint projects, creating opportunities for greater private sector cooperation between the two countries.

During the meeting, Muhammad Aurangzeb highlighted Pakistan’s progress towards macroeconomic stability and pointed to improvements in key economic indicators and the country’s sovereign credit profile. He said the government remains focused on fiscal discipline and structural reforms while working to create conditions that support sustainable investment and private sector led economic growth.

The finance minister also highlighted Pakistan’s geographical position and its potential to serve as a gateway to regional markets. He encouraged Asyad Group and other private sector investors to identify commercially viable projects that can convert investment interest into actual economic activity, business expansion and employment opportunities.

Aurangzeb assured the Asyad Group delegation that the government would continue facilitating foreign investors and supporting initiatives aimed at increasing private sector participation. The government’s engagement with Saudi investors comes as Pakistan seeks to attract additional foreign capital and broaden investment across important sectors of the economy. Amodi appreciated the government’s continued engagement with Asyad Group and reaffirmed the Saudi company’s commitment to further investment in Pakistan. He also expressed the group’s interest in strengthening economic and commercial ties between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia through additional investments, business partnerships and potential joint projects.
