Meezan Bank Approves Rs31.45 Billion Under Ghar Ho Tu Apna Housing

Meezan Bank has approved more than Rs31.45 billion in housing finance across 4,424 applications under the Government of Pakistan’s Wazir-e-Azam Apna Ghar Programme, Ghar Ho Tu Apna (GHTA), highlighting continued demand for affordable and Shariah-compliant housing finance across the country. The approved applications form a substantial financing pipeline that is expected to translate into additional disbursements as applicants complete property selection, documentation and other required procedures. The development reflects the bank’s growing activity under the government-backed housing programme and its focus on providing financing solutions structured according to Islamic principles.

Against the approved financing pipeline, Meezan Bank has already crossed Rs4 billion in cumulative disbursements under the programme. The financing has supported around 650 families in moving closer to home ownership. While the approved amount is significantly higher than the amount disbursed so far, the bank expects further disbursements as customers complete the remaining requirements associated with their applications. The difference between approved financing and actual disbursements reflects the various stages involved before approved housing finance can be released to customers.

The pace of disbursement increased considerably during August 2026. Meezan Bank disbursed approximately Rs2.2 billion during the month alone, accounting for more than half of the bank’s cumulative disbursements under the programme to date. The monthly performance indicates a significant increase in financing activity as approved applicants move through property selection, documentation and other procedural requirements. The bank’s existing financing pipeline provides scope for additional disbursements as more approved applications progress towards completion.

Ahmed Ali Siddiqui, Group Head Consumer Finance at Meezan Bank, said the approval of more than Rs31.5 billion across over 4,400 applications demonstrates significant demand for affordable and Shariah-compliant housing finance in Pakistan. He noted that the bank has already disbursed more than Rs4 billion and supported 650 families, while its focus is now on converting the approved financing pipeline into home ownership opportunities for thousands of additional customers. His comments underline the bank’s emphasis on moving approved applications towards actual financing and property ownership.

Meezan Bank has also reiterated its commitment to supporting the government’s objective of expanding access to affordable housing. The bank is providing financing solutions structured in accordance with Islamic principles, catering to customers seeking housing finance without conventional interest-based structures. Through its housing finance offerings, the bank aims to support customers in purchasing or constructing residential properties while maintaining compliance with Shariah principles.

Under its Easy Home solutions, Meezan Bank provides Shariah-compliant financing for the purchase and construction of residential properties. The bank is using its nationwide branch network, specialised housing finance teams and customer-focused processes to facilitate applicants under the Ghar Ho Tu Apna programme. These resources are being used to support customers through the financing process and help accelerate the movement from application approval to disbursement.

The growing number of approvals and disbursements under the programme also highlights the role of Islamic banking institutions in expanding access to housing finance in Pakistan. With more than Rs31.45 billion approved across 4,424 applications and over Rs4 billion already disbursed, Meezan Bank has established a substantial financing pipeline under GHTA. As approved customers complete the required property and documentation processes, further disbursements are expected, potentially allowing more families to move towards home ownership.

The latest figures reinforce Meezan Bank’s position in Pakistan’s Islamic housing finance segment while contributing to broader efforts to expand affordable housing opportunities. The bank’s financing activity under the government programme combines its Shariah-compliant housing products with its nationwide distribution network, providing applicants with access to financing for residential property purchases and construction. The continued conversion of approved applications into disbursements will determine the pace at which the current financing pipeline translates into additional home ownership under the Ghar Ho Tu Apna programme.
