The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) has announced that it will suspend trading activities on Monday, November 9, 2026, in observance of Allama Iqbal Day. The closure will be observed as part of the national holiday marking the birth anniversary of renowned philosopher and poet Allama Muhammad Iqbal. According to an official notification issued by the exchange on Wednesday, all trading activities will remain suspended throughout the day, with normal exchange operations scheduled to resume after the holiday in accordance with the regular trading calendar.
The notification was issued by PSX Chief Operating Officer Jawad H. Hashmi and circulated to all Trading Right Entitlement (TRE) Certificate Holders, exchange employees and other relevant stakeholders. The announcement formally informed market participants about the suspension of trading and provided advance notice to institutions and individuals involved in Pakistan’s capital market operations. The exchange also shared the notification with key financial market institutions to ensure that the holiday arrangements are communicated across the trading and settlement ecosystem.
Among the institutions receiving the notification were the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP), Central Depository Company (CDC) and National Clearing Company of Pakistan Limited (NCCPL). These organizations play important roles in Pakistan’s capital market, including regulatory oversight, securities depository services, clearing and settlement operations. The coordination ensures that relevant market institutions are informed about the temporary suspension of exchange activities and can make the necessary operational arrangements.
The November 9 closure will affect regular trading activities at the Pakistan Stock Exchange, including transactions conducted by investors, brokers and other market participants. Investors will not be able to execute trades through the exchange during the announced holiday. The suspension is part of the exchange’s observance of the national holiday and applies to the scheduled trading session for that day.
Allama Iqbal Day is observed annually in Pakistan on November 9 to commemorate the birth anniversary of Allama Muhammad Iqbal, whose contributions to literature, philosophy and intellectual thought hold an important place in the country’s history. Government institutions and other organizations observe the occasion through official holiday arrangements, while financial markets adjust their operating schedules accordingly.
The PSX announcement provides investors, brokerage firms, financial institutions and other market participants with advance notice to plan their trading activities around the holiday. With trading suspended for November 9, market participants will need to account for the closure when arranging transactions and managing their investment activities during the week. The notification also ensures that relevant capital market institutions remain aligned regarding the exchange’s operating schedule.
