Attaullah Tarar Says Government Working to Improve Pakistan’s Business Environment

Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar has said the government is taking measures to create a peaceful, stable and business-friendly environment while supporting investment, industrial activity, exports and employment generation. He made the remarks during a visit to the residence of Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) President Ali Hussam Asghar, where he congratulated him on his election as president of the chamber.

The meeting included discussions on Pakistan’s overall economic situation and the government’s efforts to support economic revival. Representatives also discussed industrial and business activity, investment, exports, employment generation and stronger coordination between the government and the private sector. Tarar appreciated the constructive role of the business community and expressed confidence that the newly elected LCCI leadership would contribute to efforts aimed at strengthening economic activity.

Tarar said the government and business community need to work together to strengthen the economy and support sustainable economic growth. He described the business community as a key stakeholder in the country’s economic agenda and stressed that continued cooperation between public-sector institutions and private businesses was necessary to address economic challenges. He added that the government would continue consulting chambers of commerce and representatives of the business community to identify genuine concerns and develop practical solutions.

LCCI President Ali Hussam Asghar welcomed the government’s efforts toward economic stability and revival and said the private sector was prepared to play its role in strengthening the national economy. He said the Lahore Chamber would focus on industrial expansion, increasing exports, attracting investment, generating employment and improving the overall business environment. He also called for a clear and coordinated long-term economic strategy supported by regular consultation between government institutions and business representatives.

Asghar highlighted the need to expand Pakistan’s export base by entering new international markets, developing sector-specific strategies and increasing the share of value-added exports. He identified textiles, engineering, surgical instruments, food processing, information technology, sports goods and agriculture as sectors with potential for further export development. According to him, stronger attention to these sectors could help businesses increase their international presence while contributing to broader economic activity.

The LCCI president also called for measures to reduce the cost of doing business and improve access to essential inputs and services. He emphasised improvements in energy and infrastructure, simplification of the tax system, investment facilitation and easier access to finance and technology, particularly for small and medium-sized enterprises. He also linked economic revival with employment creation for young people and called for stronger cooperation among educational institutions, industry and government to develop skills aligned with market requirements.

During the meeting, Parliamentary Secretary for Planning and Development Hafiz Nauman said the business community remained an important partner in the government’s economic efforts. He said the government was committed to establishing a stable and conducive environment for investment and economic activity and would continue engaging with the private sector. Nauman welcomed constructive proposals from businesses and expressed hope that the newly elected LCCI leadership would contribute to economic development and strengthen cooperation between public and private stakeholders.

The discussions also covered measures related to investment promotion, industrial growth, trade facilitation, exports and employment. Both government and business representatives agreed on the importance of maintaining continued engagement and coordination. The meeting reflects ongoing efforts to bring business representatives into discussions on economic policy and to address issues affecting investment, industrial activity and export-oriented businesses.
