Iftekhar Khan Joins Easypaisa as Chief Information Security Officer

Easypaisa has appointed Iftekhar Khan as its new Chief Information Security Officer (CISO), bringing an experienced information security professional into a leadership position as digital financial services continue to expand across Pakistan. Khan has an extensive background in the country’s banking and financial services industry, with experience in information security management, cybersecurity risk assessment and the protection of critical financial systems. His appointment adds significant banking sector experience to Easypaisa’s security leadership as financial institutions increasingly rely on digital platforms, interconnected technology infrastructure and electronic payment services. With cyber threats and operational security requirements becoming important considerations for financial service providers, the role of a CISO remains central to maintaining secure systems, protecting sensitive information and strengthening organisational resilience.

Khan joins Easypaisa after serving for more than five years as Executive Vice President (EVP) and Chief Information Security Officer at JS Bank. During his tenure, he held a senior leadership position focused on information security within a commercial banking environment. His experience at JS Bank provided exposure to the security requirements of financial institutions operating across digital banking, technology infrastructure and regulated financial services. Managing information security in such environments involves identifying potential vulnerabilities, strengthening security controls and ensuring that institutional systems remain protected against evolving cyber risks. His transition to Easypaisa brings this experience into a digital financial services organisation where secure technology operations and customer information protection are essential to maintaining confidence in electronic financial transactions.

Before joining JS Bank, Khan held senior information security leadership positions at HBL Microfinance Bank and United Bank Limited (UBL). At UBL, he served as Acting Chief Information Security Officer and Vice President, contributing to information security management within one of Pakistan’s major banking institutions. His responsibilities across these organisations provided experience in managing security requirements across different banking structures and operational environments. Earlier in his professional career, he worked as Senior Manager Information Security at Bank AL Habib Limited, further expanding his experience in financial sector security management. His progression through these institutions reflects a career built around information security leadership and the management of technology-related risks in regulated financial organisations.

His professional background covers several areas that have become increasingly important as banks and financial technology companies expand their digital services. Information security leaders are responsible for supporting frameworks that protect institutional data, financial transactions, technology infrastructure and customer information. Their work also involves assessing security risks, strengthening internal controls, coordinating responses to potential incidents and ensuring that security practices remain aligned with organisational and regulatory requirements. For digital financial service providers, these responsibilities extend across mobile applications, payment systems, customer-facing platforms and the technology infrastructure supporting daily operations. Khan’s experience across commercial banking and microfinance institutions provides exposure to a range of security challenges within Pakistan’s financial services ecosystem.

Academically, Khan holds a Master’s degree in Computer Science from the Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science and Technology. He also completed a Postgraduate Certification in ISP Engineering from NED University of Engineering and Technology. His educational background combines computer science knowledge with specialised technical education, complementing his professional experience in information security and banking technology environments. These qualifications provide a technical foundation relevant to understanding complex information systems, network infrastructure and the security requirements associated with digital financial operations.

The appointment comes as Pakistan’s financial sector continues to expand its use of digital channels for payments, account access and other banking services. Easypaisa operates in an environment where the security and reliability of digital platforms are closely connected to customer trust and the continuity of financial services. As transaction volumes and digital engagement increase, financial service providers must maintain effective systems for identifying threats, managing vulnerabilities and protecting sensitive customer information. Strong information security leadership is therefore an important component of technology governance and operational risk management.

Khan’s appointment brings experience from JS Bank, HBL Microfinance Bank, UBL and Bank AL Habib to Easypaisa’s leadership structure. His professional journey across these institutions highlights the growing importance of experienced cybersecurity professionals in Pakistan’s banking and fintech industries. As financial services become more digitally connected, strengthening information security frameworks and protecting critical systems will remain essential responsibilities for institutions seeking to maintain reliable services and safeguard customer confidence.
