KissanPay Launched as Pakistan’s Shariah-Compliant Agri-Fintech Platform

KissanPay, a Shariah-compliant agri-fintech platform developed by Kissan Gudam and aik by BankIslami, was inaugurated at the Pakistan Agriculture Connections Expo 2026, marking a new development in the use of digital financial services for Pakistan’s agriculture sector. The platform was launched at an event organised by Kissan Gudam and attended by Saleem Ullah, Deputy Governor of the State Bank of Pakistan, and Ahmed Umair, Coordinator to the Prime Minister on Agriculture and Food Security. The two officials also participated in the disbursement of KissanPay’s first financing to a farmer.

The platform brings together Kissan Gudam, backed by Haji Sons Group, and aik by BankIslami through an integrated model focused on agricultural storage, financing and liquidity. Kissan Gudam contributes its warehousing infrastructure and farmer ecosystem, while aik by BankIslami provides its Banking-as-a-Service framework and Shariah-compliant financing solutions. Under the model, eligible farmers can seek financing against stored agricultural commodities, subject to applicable eligibility requirements and financing criteria.

KissanPay is designed to connect different stages of the agricultural value chain through digital financial infrastructure. Farmers can store agricultural commodities through the warehousing ecosystem and potentially use those stored commodities as the basis for accessing financing. The model aims to provide farmers with greater access to liquidity without requiring them to immediately sell their harvest to meet financial needs, subject to the financing conditions applicable to each farmer.

The launch also brought together stakeholders from the banking, fintech and agriculture sectors. On behalf of aik by BankIslami, the team expressed appreciation to State Bank of Pakistan Deputy Governor Saleem Ullah for his support and encouragement for the initiative. The partners highlighted the potential of the platform to contribute to the development of agricultural financing by combining financial services with infrastructure already connected to the farming and commodity-storage ecosystem.

Speaking at the event, Saleem Ullah congratulated Haji Sons Group and aik by BankIslami on the launch and expressed the State Bank’s support for the initiative. He also highlighted the importance of collaboration between fintech companies, banks and the agriculture sector. According to the statement shared at the launch, he said platforms such as KissanPay have the potential to support agriculture by bringing financial services closer to the activities and requirements of farmers.

Ashfaque Ahmed, Chief Officer at aik by BankIslami, said the partnership reflects a shift toward embedding financial services within the ecosystems where economic activity takes place. He said the collaboration would use digital infrastructure and Banking-as-a-Service capabilities to develop a more seamless Shariah-compliant financing process for the agriculture sector. The approach places banking and financing services alongside agricultural activities rather than treating them as separate processes.

Senior officials from BankIslami also attended the event and reaffirmed the bank’s commitment to supporting innovation and expanding access to digital, Shariah-compliant financial solutions for agriculture. The involvement of the bank and its digital financial services arm positions KissanPay within a wider effort to connect technology-enabled banking services with sectors that have traditionally faced challenges in accessing timely financing.

Anam Tahir, Chief Technology Officer at Kissan Gudam, said speed can influence whether a farmer receives a fair price or is forced into a distress sale. She explained that KissanPay is intended to allow farmers to move from opening a bank account to receiving financing in minutes rather than weeks. The longer-term objective, according to the company, is to develop a connected digital ecosystem in which farmers can store commodities, access banking services, obtain financing and expand their agricultural activities through an integrated platform.

Through KissanPay, Kissan Gudam and aik by BankIslami aim to make agricultural finance more accessible while increasing the role of digital infrastructure in Pakistan’s farming ecosystem. The platform links stored agricultural commodities with financing opportunities and seeks to provide timely Shariah-compliant financial support to eligible farmers. The initiative also represents an effort to bring warehousing, banking and financing into a connected digital model for the agriculture sector.
