Zong Launches Pakistan’s First 5G Fixed Wireless Home Broadband Service

Zong has launched Z HomeFi, a 5G Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) home broadband service that the company describes as Pakistan’s first 5G FWA home broadband offering. The service brings 5G connectivity beyond smartphones and into residential settings, providing households with an alternative to conventional fibre and fixed-line broadband connections. The launch forms part of Zong’s broader effort to use its telecommunications network and digital capabilities to develop technology-led connectivity services for consumers.

Z HomeFi is designed to provide home broadband without requiring fibre installation, fixed-line infrastructure or complex installation processes. The service uses 5G technology and indoor Customer Premises Equipment (CPE) to provide connectivity inside homes. According to Zong, the setup is intended to give customers a simpler plug-and-connect experience while providing high-speed connectivity for households with different internet requirements.

The service is currently available across Pakistan’s top 10 cities, expanding access to 5G-based home broadband for customers in major urban markets. Z HomeFi is being offered exclusively through Zong’s Customer Service Centres at launch, while the company plans to extend availability to its franchises in the future. The expansion is expected to provide customers with additional channels through which they can obtain the service and related equipment.

Z HomeFi offers 12 prepaid broadband bundles designed for different household usage requirements. The packages provide speeds ranging from 10 Mbps to 50 Mbps, while monthly data allowances range from 100 GB to 500 GB. Monthly prices range from PKR 4,500 to PKR 11,000, inclusive of taxes. The available packages are intended to cover a range of usage patterns, including everyday internet browsing, video streaming, remote work and online learning.

The 5G indoor Customer Premises Equipment required for the service is priced at PKR 22,000. The equipment supports the plug-and-connect setup promoted by Zong, allowing customers to establish their home broadband connection without the fibre deployment normally associated with fixed internet services. By relying on wireless 5G connectivity, Z HomeFi is positioned as an option for households seeking broadband access where conventional fixed-line installation may be less convenient.

Commenting on the launch, Zong Head of Marketing Sajid Munir said the value of technology should be measured by its ability to improve everyday life. He said Z HomeFi brings 5G technology directly into Pakistani homes while providing broadband connectivity without the complexity associated with fibre installation and fixed-line infrastructure. He also highlighted potential household uses including learning, working, streaming, content creation and staying connected.

The introduction of Z HomeFi adds a home broadband component to Zong’s 5G services and expands the potential use cases for the company’s next-generation mobile network. Rather than limiting 5G connectivity to smartphones and other mobile devices, the FWA model uses the cellular network to provide a fixed-location internet connection. This can give households another broadband option while avoiding the physical cabling requirements associated with traditional fixed connections.

Zong said the launch supports its wider role as a technology enabler of Digital Pakistan by combining its network, digital platforms and technology capabilities to develop services focused on customer needs. The company has positioned Z HomeFi as part of its efforts to translate 5G infrastructure into consumer services that can be used in everyday household activities.

With Z HomeFi, Zong is bringing its “Aisa Hai Future” brand promise into the home broadband market through a 5G-based fixed wireless service. The initial availability across 10 cities, 12 prepaid bundles and speeds of up to 50 Mbps give customers several options based on their connectivity and data requirements. The launch represents another step in the expansion of 5G applications in Pakistan, with wireless broadband being extended from mobile usage to household connectivity.
