National Institute of Banking and Finance (NIBAF), Pakistan has announced a specialised training programme titled “Safeguarding Financial Instruments: Handwriting Analysis & Document Authentication Masterclass,” aimed at banking professionals involved in branch operations, compliance, internal audit, fraud risk management and cheque related functions. The one day training session is scheduled to take place on August 19, 2026, at NIBAF Pakistan in Karachi and will run from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The training investment has been set at PKR 18,000 plus applicable tax per participant, while the deadline for nominations has been set for August 18, 2026.
The masterclass is designed to address areas related to the verification and safeguarding of financial instruments, with particular relevance for professionals who regularly handle customer documents, signatures, cheques and other banking records. NIBAF has recommended the programme for branch banking and operations officers, compliance and internal audit teams, fraud risk management and investigation units, as well as professionals working in cheque clearing departments and customer service functions. The programme is intended to provide participants with specialised knowledge relevant to identifying and examining issues surrounding financial documents and instruments.
Handwriting and signature analysis can form an important part of banking controls where financial documents require verification. Banking institutions handle a large volume of cheques, account related documents and other instruments where authenticity and proper examination are important components of operational controls. The masterclass is therefore positioned around document authentication and handwriting analysis, with the objective of providing relevant banking personnel with additional expertise that can support their responsibilities in financial instrument handling and fraud risk management.
The training will be facilitated by Naveed Elahi Malik, a senior commercial banker with more than 45 years of banking experience across different leading commercial banks. According to NIBAF, Malik has worked in a range of senior functions, including branch operations, internal control, fraud risk management, audit and inspection, complaint and problem resolution, legal affairs and compliance risk management. His professional experience also includes service with the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), where he served as Head of the Financial Crimes and Investigation Wing.
Malik holds a Master’s degree in Economics and a Diploma Associate Institute of Bankers Pakistan (DAIBP). He has also been involved in professional training for approximately 25 years through different training platforms. His areas of expertise include compliance risk management, Anti Money Laundering (AML), Countering the Financing of Terrorism (CFT), Countering Proliferation Financing (CPF), Financial Action Task Force (FATF) related issues, branch operations and legal and regulatory compliance.
His professional training experience further covers areas including account opening requirements, negotiable instruments, cheque securities, internal controls, the COSO framework, fraud risk management and signature analysis. NIBAF stated that Malik is included in the approved list of trainers of the International Finance Corporation (IFC) of the World Bank, adding to the professional credentials presented for the masterclass.
The programme’s target audience reflects the range of banking functions that deal with financial documents and potential fraud risks. Branch banking and operations officers are among the recommended participants, as these professionals regularly handle customer documentation and financial instruments. Compliance and internal audit teams are also included, given their responsibilities in reviewing controls and ensuring that banking processes remain aligned with applicable requirements.
Fraud risk management and investigation units are another key target group for the programme. These teams are responsible for identifying and examining potential financial irregularities, making document authentication and signature analysis relevant areas of professional knowledge. Cheque clearing departments and customer service functions have also been identified among the recommended participants because of their direct involvement with customer instruments and banking documentation.
The programme is scheduled for August 19 at NIBAF Pakistan’s Karachi venue, with the session beginning at 9:00 AM and continuing until 5:00 PM. Participants are required to pay PKR 18,000 plus tax per person as the training investment. Nominations are being accepted until August 18, 2026, one day before the scheduled training session.
NIBAF has provided registration and nomination channels for interested banking professionals and institutions. Participants can seek further details through registration@nibaf.gov.pk and marketing@nibaf.org.pk. The institute has also provided contact numbers 021-35277511 and 051-9269850, along with WhatsApp contact 0303-0652963 for nominations and additional information.
The training comes as banks continue to place emphasis on internal controls, fraud prevention, compliance and the secure handling of financial instruments. By focusing on handwriting analysis and document authentication alongside broader banking control areas, the NIBAF masterclass is intended to provide specialised training for professionals whose responsibilities involve reviewing financial documents and protecting banking operations from potential risks.
