NIBAF Pakistan Conducts SBP Regulatory Compliance Workshop on AML, KYC and CDD

The National Institute of Banking and Finance Pakistan conducted a two day face to face training workshop focused on regulatory compliance requirements and challenges faced by financial institutions in implementing Anti Money Laundering, Know Your Customer and Customer Due Diligence frameworks. The programme, titled “SBP Regulatory Compliance – AML/KYC-CDD Compliance Challenges in Financial Institutions,” was held from August 6 to August 7, 2026, at the NIBAF Pakistan Lahore Campus.

The training programme was designed for commercial bank officers and focused on strengthening their understanding of regulatory compliance requirements applicable to financial institutions. Anti Money Laundering, Know Your Customer and Customer Due Diligence procedures form an important part of banking operations, requiring financial institutions to maintain appropriate systems and processes for identifying customers, understanding their financial activities and meeting applicable regulatory obligations.

The two day workshop provided a dedicated platform for banking professionals to examine compliance challenges associated with AML, KYC and CDD practices. These areas are closely connected to the broader risk management framework of financial institutions, as banks need effective compliance processes to identify and manage potential financial crime risks while maintaining appropriate customer information and due diligence procedures.

Mr. Muhammad Asim Khan Suri served as the facilitator for the training programme. His role involved guiding commercial bank officers through the subject areas covered during the workshop and providing professional perspectives on regulatory compliance challenges within financial institutions. The programme brought together banking professionals in a focused learning environment at NIBAF Pakistan’s Lahore Campus.

The emphasis on State Bank of Pakistan regulatory compliance reflects the importance of regulatory requirements in the operations of commercial banks. Financial institutions are required to maintain compliance frameworks that support appropriate customer identification, due diligence and monitoring processes. Effective implementation of these requirements also requires banking professionals to remain familiar with regulatory expectations and operational challenges associated with compliance procedures.

The workshop also addressed the broader importance of financial crime prevention within the banking sector. AML, KYC and CDD frameworks are important components of the systems used by financial institutions to identify and manage risks associated with financial transactions and customer relationships. Building professional capacity in these areas can support banks in maintaining risk conscious operations and strengthening internal compliance practices.

NIBAF Pakistan said the programme forms part of its continued efforts to strengthen regulatory compliance capacity within the financial sector. By providing specialised training for commercial bank officers, the institute aims to support banking professionals in developing the knowledge required to address regulatory requirements and compliance challenges. Such programmes also contribute to professional development within the banking industry by focusing on areas directly connected to financial institution operations.

The workshop further highlights the increasing importance of compliance expertise across Pakistan’s commercial banking sector. As financial institutions manage evolving regulatory requirements and financial crime risks, banking professionals need a clear understanding of customer due diligence, customer identification and Anti Money Laundering controls. Training programmes focused on these areas can help strengthen the compliance capabilities of banking teams and support more effective risk management.

The two day programme at the NIBAF Pakistan Lahore Campus brought together regulatory compliance education and practical banking perspectives for commercial bank officers. Through the sessions led by Muhammad Asim Khan Suri, participants were provided with an opportunity to focus specifically on AML, KYC and CDD challenges within financial institutions and their relationship with State Bank of Pakistan regulatory requirements.

NIBAF Pakistan continues to conduct specialised training programmes aimed at strengthening professional capabilities across the financial sector. The latest workshop adds regulatory compliance to the institute’s training focus and reinforces its role in developing banking professionals across areas including risk management, financial crime prevention and regulatory requirements. The initiative supports the development of a more compliance focused and risk conscious banking environment in Pakistan.
