Pakistan Launch First Refrigerated TIR Export Shipment to Central Asia via Iran Corridor

Pakistan has achieved a landmark milestone in its transit and logistics sector with the official launch of the first refrigerated reefer TIR export shipment from Karachi. This inaugural consignment which consists of high quality beef was dispatched under the International Road Transport system from the BOML CFS facility in Karachi. The shipment is destined for Uzbekistan marking a strategic expansion of Pakistans trade footprint into the Central Asian Republics. This development is particularly significant as it utilizes the Iran corridor specifically crossing through the Gabd Border Post near Gwadar and entering Iran via Rimdan before proceeding toward its final destination in Central Asia.

The movement was formally inaugurated by senior officials from Pakistan Customs including Director General Transit Sanaullah Abro and Director Transit Rashid. The ceremony held at BOML CFS Karachi saw the flagging off of the first two reefer TIR transport units. The event was attended by key stakeholders including management from the logistics operator M/s Broadpeak and representatives from the PNC-ICC. Officials at the ceremony described the launch as a transformative step for the national transit trade framework highlighting how the Gabd Rimdan corridor enhances the strategic connectivity of Gwadar and provides a dedicated route for perishable goods requiring temperature controlled environments.

This new trade route is expected to provide a faster and more efficient transit option for Pakistani exporters who have traditionally faced logistical hurdles in reaching landlocked Central Asian markets. By utilizing the TIR convention which streamlines customs procedures and reduces the need for physical inspections at borders the shipment can move seamlessly across multiple international frontiers. This efficiency is critical for the export of meat and other perishable items where time and temperature management are essential for maintaining product quality. The initiative reflects a growing synergy between Customs authorities logistics companies and TIR operators to modernize the countrys transshipment capabilities.

The strategic positioning of the Gabd Border Post near Gwadar is central to this new logistics blueprint. By activating this specific corridor Pakistan is effectively linking its deep sea ports to the emerging markets of the Middle East and Central Asia. Logistics experts have already noted an uptick in international container traffic at Karachi Port in recent weeks suggesting that the infrastructure is ready to handle increased volumes. This inaugural reefer shipment serves as a proof of concept for large scale commercial operations proving that Pakistan can function as a reliable logistics hub for South Asian exports moving North.

Beyond the immediate economic benefits this development strengthens Pakistans role in regional connectivity. The successful dispatch of the beef consignment to Uzbekistan via Iran demonstrates that the regional transit agreements are becoming operationally viable. As more exporters adopt this route it is expected to lower transportation costs and reduce delivery times significantly compared to traditional sea routes. The government and private sector partners remain committed to expanding this framework ensuring that Karachi and Gwadar remain at the heart of a revitalized regional trade network that facilitates the smooth flow of goods across the Eurasian landmass.
