Punjab is moving toward greater digitalization of its agriculture sector, with the provincial government examining the use of artificial intelligence (AI), advanced digital models and mobile applications to improve agricultural advisory services for farmers. Punjab Minister for Agriculture Syed Ashiq Hussain Kirmani said modern technologies can provide farmers with timely and effective guidance and have become an important part of the province’s ongoing agricultural transformation agenda.
The minister made the remarks while chairing a meeting at the Civil Secretariat in Lahore to review proposals concerning the use of modern digital technologies in agriculture. Secretary Agriculture Punjab Shakeel Ahmad Mian also attended the meeting, where officials discussed ways to use technology and AI based solutions to strengthen agricultural services and provide farmers with information aligned with current requirements.
During the meeting, the Agriculture Minister was briefed on an advanced mobile application developed by Syngenta Pakistan for crops. The application was presented as part of the discussion on how digital tools can improve agricultural advisory services and provide farmers with more timely information. The meeting also considered how such technologies could assist in collecting information related to crop growth and other important agricultural indicators.
Kirmani said the digitalization of agriculture is a key component of the province’s broader agricultural transformation efforts. He stressed the importance of making farmer advisory services more effective and results oriented by using modern digital technologies. According to the minister, advanced applications can help provide relevant information to farmers while also supporting the collection of data that can be used to understand crop conditions and other agricultural developments.
The use of digital applications could also provide a more structured way of delivering agricultural guidance. Instead of relying entirely on conventional advisory channels, farmers could access information through mobile based platforms and other digital tools. The approach could help improve the timing of agricultural recommendations and provide farmers with information related to crop development and other important indicators.
Secretary Agriculture Punjab Shakeel Ahmad Mian highlighted the potential of modern digital technologies in improving the diagnosis of crop diseases. He said effective use of technology could facilitate the timely detection of diseases affecting crops and enable farmers to receive appropriate guidance.
Digital tools and AI based systems can play a role in identifying crop related problems and supporting the delivery of agricultural advice. The government is therefore considering how such technologies can be incorporated into farmer advisory services to make information more accessible and responsive to agricultural needs.
Shakeel Ahmad Mian also emphasized the potential role of public private partnerships in promoting modern digital agricultural technologies. Collaboration between government institutions and private sector companies could support the deployment of applications and technology based services designed to assist farmers. The provincial government intends to make use of modern applications and AI based technologies as part of this approach.
The meeting also reviewed proposals for leveraging advanced AI models in the agriculture sector. Officials discussed the possibility of using modern AI capabilities to provide farmers with agricultural information in line with contemporary requirements. The discussions covered the broader application of advanced digital models rather than focusing solely on a single agricultural service.
The use of AI and digital technologies in agriculture could provide farmers with access to information concerning crop conditions, disease detection and other agricultural indicators. The government’s discussions indicate an interest in using these tools to strengthen existing advisory mechanisms and make agricultural services more responsive.
The initiative comes as agriculture continues to play an important role in Punjab’s economy and rural activity. Improving the availability and timing of agricultural information can support farmers in making decisions related to crop management and responding to problems affecting their fields.
The Punjab government is now examining various proposals that could bring advanced technology further into agricultural services. The focus on AI, mobile applications and public private partnerships signals a shift toward technology supported farmer advisory services, with digital tools expected to complement existing agricultural support mechanisms.
The meeting concluded with a review of different options for using advanced AI models and digital applications in agriculture. The provincial government’s stated objective is to use modern technologies to improve farmer guidance, strengthen crop disease diagnosis and provide agricultural information that is more timely and relevant to farmers’ needs.
