RDA Attracts $259m in August as Cumulative Inflows Reach $13.91bn

5 Views by PakBanker Desk

Roshan Digital Accounts (RDA) attracted total inflows of $259 million during August 2026, taking cumulative inflows since the launch of the initiative to $13.91 billion. According to data released by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), monthly inflows declined by $23 million from the $282 million recorded in July. Despite the month-on-month reduction, RDA inflows during the current financial year remained higher than the corresponding period of the previous year.

Of the total amount received through RDA during August, $175 million was either repatriated or utilized locally. This resulted in an $84 million increase in the Net Repatriable Liability (NRL) during the month. The amount included $12 million that was repatriated outside Pakistan and $164 million that was utilized locally. The figures show how funds received through the accounts were distributed between overseas repatriation and economic activity within the country.

Cumulatively, repatriation and local utilization through RDA reached $10.90 billion. This comprised $2.13 billion repatriated and $8.77 billion utilized locally. Following these transactions, the Net Repatriable Liability stood at $3.01 billion, equivalent to 21.64% of total cumulative RDA inflows of $13.91 billion. The NRL represents funds that remain available within the RDA system and can potentially be repatriated.

The composition of the cumulative NRL also showed significant investment across different instruments. Conventional Naya Pakistan Certificates accounted for $716 million, while $1.33 billion was invested in Islamic Naya Pakistan Certificates. Equity investments stood at $155 million, while balances maintained in RDA accounts amounted to $729 million. Other liabilities accounted for a further $78 million, providing a breakdown of how the outstanding repatriable amount was positioned across various categories.

RDA inflows during the current financial year reached $541 million, compared with $349 million during the corresponding period of the previous year. This represents an increase of $192 million between the two periods. Repatriation and local utilization also increased during the current financial year, reaching $368 million compared with $287 million during the same period last year. The figures indicate higher overall activity through the RDA channel during the current financial year.

The number of RDA accounts also continued to increase during August. A total of 9,354 new accounts were opened during the month, taking the total number of RDA accounts to 966,144. The continued expansion in the account base reflects ongoing participation by overseas Pakistanis using the digital banking channel to maintain accounts and access investment and financial services connected with Pakistan.

Monthly inflows have varied throughout the RDA programme, with the highest monthly inflow recorded in April 2026. During that month, RDA received $321 million. August’s $259 million inflow was therefore below the year’s peak, while remaining part of the broader cumulative inflow recorded through the programme.

The data also showed that the largest monthly reduction in RDA Net Repatriable Liability through repatriation and local utilization occurred in July 2022, when the NRL declined by $330 million. This reflects the scale of transactions that can take place through the RDA system when account holders repatriate funds or use their balances locally.

Overall, RDA inflows reached $259 million in August, while cumulative inflows climbed to $13.91 billion. The month also saw more than 9,000 new accounts opened, bringing the total account base close to one million. At the same time, cumulative repatriation and local utilization reached $10.90 billion, leaving an NRL of $3.01 billion. The latest figures provide an updated view of overseas Pakistanis’ participation in the RDA programme and their use of the accounts for investment, local spending and maintaining financial balances.
