Sindh High Court Suspends NEPRA Tariff Orders Against K-Electric

The Sindh High Court has suspended contested tariff-related orders and notifications issued by the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) and the Ministry of Energy following a legal challenge filed by K-Electric. The court issued ad-interim orders on October 7, 2026, providing temporary relief to the electricity utility while its challenge against the disputed regulatory decisions proceeds through the legal process. K-Electric disclosed the development to the Pakistan Stock Exchange on Thursday.

The legal proceedings relate to tariff appeals that were considered by the NEPRA Appellate Tribunal. K-Electric challenged judgments issued by the tribunal on September 23, 2026, as part of its efforts to contest the regulatory decisions affecting its tariff matters. The company said it approached the Sindh High Court in exercise of its legal rights against the judgments and related regulatory actions.

In addition to the September 23 appellate tribunal judgments, K-Electric’s petition challenges NEPRA’s review determinations dated October 20, 2025. The company has also contested subsequent notifications connected with those proceedings, including notifications issued by NEPRA on September 23, 2026, and another notification issued by the Ministry of Energy’s Power Division on September 27, 2026.

The Sindh High Court’s October 7 orders have placed the challenged regulatory decisions and notifications on hold on an interim basis. K-Electric said the court granted ad-interim relief by suspending the disputed orders and notifications. The development does not represent a final determination of the underlying tariff dispute, but temporarily prevents the challenged decisions from taking effect while the court considers the matter further.

K-Electric’s disclosure provides the latest development in a regulatory dispute involving the company, NEPRA and the government’s power division. Tariff determinations and subsequent regulatory notifications can have a direct bearing on electricity-sector financial arrangements, making the outcome of the court proceedings relevant to the company and other stakeholders following Pakistan’s power market. The court’s interim intervention means the contested decisions will remain subject to further legal proceedings.

The latest disclosure follows an earlier filing by K-Electric dated September 24, 2026, in which the company had informed the Pakistan Stock Exchange about developments concerning the tariff proceedings. The new filing records the court’s subsequent intervention and the temporary suspension of the challenged regulatory actions.

For now, the suspension remains an interim measure arising from K-Electric’s petition before the Sindh High Court. The company’s challenge covers the September 23 appellate tribunal judgments, NEPRA’s October 20, 2025 review determinations and the related notifications issued by NEPRA and the Ministry of Energy’s Power Division. Further proceedings before the court will determine how the disputed tariff matters proceed.
