Kaan Terzioğlu, Chief Executive Officer of VEON Group, and Aamir Ibrahim, Chief Executive Officer of JazzWorld, led a senior leadership delegation in a meeting with Dr. Kabir Ahmed Sidhu, Chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP), to discuss opportunities for strengthening Pakistan’s capital markets, expanding financial inclusion and supporting the country’s growing digital economy. The meeting focused on the role of technology and financial services in supporting economic development, while also examining opportunities to improve digital infrastructure and create an environment that can support greater investment and technology-led solutions.

The delegation included Zaheer Mehdi, Group Chief Corporate and Regulatory Affairs; Saima Kamila Khan, Chief Legal Officer of JazzWorld; and Farrukh H. Khan, Chief Financial Officer of JazzWorld. During the meeting, the leadership acknowledged progress in Pakistan’s capital markets and appreciated the SECP’s efforts to improve market efficiency, transparency and investor confidence. The discussions highlighted the importance of continued cooperation between regulators, financial institutions and technology companies as Pakistan seeks to expand its digital and financial ecosystem and increase access to services for individuals and businesses.

A major part of the discussion focused on the investment required to develop Pakistan’s digital infrastructure. The delegation highlighted growing requirements for data centers, cloud services and artificial intelligence capabilities as digital adoption continues to expand across different sectors of the economy. Greater investment in these areas was discussed as an important opportunity for supporting Pakistan’s technology infrastructure and meeting the needs of businesses and consumers. The leadership also pointed to the potential for stronger cooperation between the technology and financial sectors, particularly in developing financial models and investment frameworks that can support digital infrastructure projects.

Kaan Terzioğlu said Pakistan’s digital transformation requires substantial investment in infrastructure, technology and new financial models. He noted that VEON, as a long-term investor in Pakistan, sees an opportunity to work with institutions such as SECP to develop frameworks capable of unlocking capital, encouraging innovation and supporting the country’s digital economy. His remarks emphasized the importance of regulatory cooperation in creating suitable conditions for investment and enabling technology companies to contribute to the expansion of Pakistan’s digital infrastructure.

Aamir Ibrahim highlighted the changing role of JazzWorld within Pakistan’s technology and financial services landscape. He said JazzWorld has developed beyond a traditional telecom operator into an integrated digital ServiceCo covering financial services, banking, insurance, artificial intelligence and technology. According to Ibrahim, the company’s scale and distribution capabilities can help turn regulatory developments into practical solutions that can reach millions of Pakistanis and businesses. The comments underline the potential role of established digital platforms in expanding access to financial and technology-enabled services across the country.

The meeting also covered opportunities to strengthen Pakistan’s insurance ecosystem and broaden access to financial services. The participants discussed the potential benefits of greater awareness, digital distribution and technology-led solutions in expanding the reach of insurance and other financial products. Increasing digital access can provide additional channels for consumers and businesses to engage with financial services, while regulatory and industry cooperation can help support the development of a broader and more accessible financial ecosystem.

The discussions also reflected the wider importance of connecting Pakistan’s capital markets with the country’s digital transformation. Greater access to investment, financial services and digital infrastructure can support businesses seeking to expand their technology capabilities while creating additional opportunities for individuals and enterprises to participate in the formal financial system. The involvement of technology companies and financial sector stakeholders in these discussions also points to the growing connection between digital infrastructure, financial services and capital markets.

The meeting reaffirmed the commitment of VEON and JazzWorld to work with SECP and other relevant stakeholders on initiatives supporting investment, financial inclusion, digital development and the continued growth of Pakistan’s digital economy. The engagement brought together perspectives from the technology, telecommunications, financial services and regulatory sectors, with discussions centered on creating opportunities for investment and expanding technology-enabled financial solutions. Continued collaboration between these stakeholders is expected to remain important as Pakistan develops its digital infrastructure and works to broaden access to financial services.
