NIBAF Pakistan Announces Two-Day Workshop on Islamic Banking Shariah Compliance Risk Management

The National Institute of Banking and Finance Pakistan has announced a comprehensive two-day professional training program focused on identifying, mitigating, and controlling Shariah non-compliance risks within Islamic banking institutions. Scheduled to take place on August 10 and August 11, 2026, at the institute Lahore campus, the face-to-face workshop aims to address operational vulnerabilities and regulatory expectations facing the domestic Islamic financial sector. As Islamic banking operations continue to expand rapidly across the country, building specialized risk management capabilities remains essential for financial institutions seeking to safeguard compliance, maintain consumer confidence, and adhere strictly to central bank supervisory directives.

The workshop is structured to provide practical insights for professionals across a wide array of control, operational, and regulatory functions. Target participants include Shariah compliance and risk officers, internal Shariah auditors, review officers, Islamic banking operations managers, relationship managers, and product development specialists. Additionally, the program extends to risk management teams, internal audit professionals, finance officers, and supervisory personnel from regulatory bodies. By gathering multi-disciplinary professionals in a unified learning setting, the training seeks to foster closer alignment between front-line business execution and back-office compliance monitoring.

Participants enrolled in the two-day session will explore systematic frameworks designed to spot potential non-compliance triggers across credit product structuring, daily branch operations, pool management, and transactional execution. Through structured case discussions and practical exercises, the curriculum covers actionable strategies to establish internal controls, conduct risk reviews, and implement corrective measures before non-compliance issues escalate. The course fee has been fixed at 36,000 rupees plus applicable taxes per participant, with the final deadline for institutional and individual nominations set for August 7, 2026.

Leading the interactive sessions will be Imran Yousaf Sheikh, Head of Islamic Business Transformation at Faysal Bank Limited. Bringing 28 years of extensive experience in the banking sector, the instructor offers deep expertise in managing full-scale corporate conversions from conventional to Islamic banking models. His career spans key operational domains, including retail banking, consumer finance, small and medium enterprise lending, corporate banking platforms, and financial inclusion initiatives. Throughout his professional journey, he has focused on establishing Shariah governance structures, strengthening employee engagement, and promoting an authentic ethical banking culture within expanding financial organizations.

The initiative highlights ongoing efforts by NIBAF Pakistan to strengthen human resource capacity and technical expertise across the national financial architecture. As Islamic banking assets account for an increasingly larger share of total banking sector balance sheets, regulatory authorities and commercial institutions are prioritizing specialized training to mitigate non-compliance risks that could lead to financial penalties, reputational exposure, or transaction invalidation. By providing practical tools and risk evaluation techniques, the program aims to help institutions build resilient control mechanisms capable of supporting sustainable growth across the Islamic finance sector.

Organizers emphasize that proactive risk management requires constant skills upgrading for staff members interacting with complex Islamic contracts and structured financial products. By attending the upcoming Lahore sessions, financial sector professionals will gain a clearer understanding of how to audit, monitor, and refine daily operations in accordance with standard regulatory protocols. Interested banking institutions and regulatory professionals are encouraged to submit their formal nominations prior to the August deadline to secure participation in the limited-capacity training session.
