NIBAF Pakistan Holds Forex Management Session for SBOTS-28 Officers

NIBAF Pakistan conducted a specialised technical session on Forex Management for officers participating in the State Bank Officers Training Scheme (SBOTS-28). The session was held on September 11, 2026, at the NIBAF Pakistan Islamabad Campus and focused on the operational and regulatory aspects of foreign exchange management within the State Bank of Pakistan.

The session was facilitated by Mr. Adeel Imtiaz, Senior Joint Director of the Domestic Markets and Monetary Management Department at the State Bank of Pakistan. The training provided participating officers with an opportunity to develop a deeper understanding of the central bank’s role in managing foreign exchange operations and overseeing activities connected with the country’s foreign exchange market.

A key area covered during the session was central bank foreign exchange operations. Trainee officers were introduced to the operational mechanisms through which the State Bank of Pakistan manages and monitors foreign exchange-related activities. Understanding these operations is important for officers working within a central banking environment, particularly given the role of foreign exchange markets in Pakistan’s external sector.

The technical discussion also covered exchange rate management policies. Exchange rates influence international trade, capital movements and the broader external position of an economy. The session provided officers with insights into the policy considerations and operational framework associated with managing exchange rate conditions and monitoring developments in the foreign exchange market.

Cross-border capital flows were another major component of the Forex Management module. Such flows include the movement of funds between Pakistan and international markets and can influence foreign exchange liquidity, reserves and financial conditions. The session helped trainee officers understand the role of the central bank in monitoring these flows and maintaining oversight of relevant transactions.

The programme also focused on statutory oversight mechanisms under the Domestic Markets and Monetary Management Department. This provided participants with an understanding of the regulatory responsibilities involved in foreign exchange management and the framework through which the State Bank of Pakistan supervises relevant activities.

The Forex Management session formed part of SBOTS-28, the State Bank Officers Training Scheme designed to provide structured professional training to officers of the central bank. Specialised technical modules allow trainees to gain exposure to different operational areas and understand how individual departments contribute to the functioning of the country’s monetary and financial system.

Foreign exchange management is an important component of central banking because developments in currency markets can have implications for trade, external payments, foreign reserves and financial stability. The session therefore provided SBOTS-28 officers with practical knowledge of an area directly connected with Pakistan’s external financial position.

Adeel Imtiaz’s role as facilitator also enabled the trainees to learn about foreign exchange management from a senior official working within the State Bank of Pakistan’s Domestic Markets and Monetary Management Department. The module focused on operational knowledge as well as the regulatory and statutory dimensions of foreign exchange activities.

NIBAF Pakistan’s Islamabad Campus hosted the session as part of its ongoing professional training activities for banking and central banking personnel. The institution conducts specialised programmes that help participants understand technical areas of financial-sector operations and regulatory responsibilities.

The September 11 training session on Forex Management provided SBOTS-28 officers with a broad overview of foreign exchange operations, exchange rate management policies, cross-border capital flows and statutory oversight. The module forms part of the wider training programme intended to prepare State Bank officers for responsibilities involving monetary, financial and regulatory functions.
