National Savings has revised profit rates across several savings instruments, with most major certificates and accounts recording reductions of between 30 and 36 basis points. The changes announced by the Central Directorate of National Savings (CDNS) took effect on different dates between September 8 and September 11, 2026. While the majority of conventional savings products saw their returns lowered, the Short Term Savings Certificate and two Sarwa Islamic savings products moved in the opposite direction with higher profit rates.
The Defence Savings Certificate (DSC) was among the instruments affected by the revision. Effective September 8, 2026, its profit rate was reduced by 33 basis points to 11.61%, compared with the previous rate of 11.94%. The reduction brings the return on the certificate below the level previously available to savers, as National Savings adjusted the rates across several of its longer-term and income-oriented products.
The Behbood Savings Certificate (BSC) and Pensioners Benefit Account (PBA) also received reductions of 36 basis points each, with the revised profit rate set at 12.60% from 12.96%. Both changes became effective on September 8. The Shuhada Family Welfare Account (SFWA), which was also revised from the same date, saw its rate decline by 36 basis points to 12.60%, compared with 12.96% previously. These products are among the savings instruments that now offer lower returns following the latest CDNS adjustment.
The Regular Income Certificate (RIC) was revised effective September 9, with its profit rate declining by 36 basis points to 11.16% from 11.52%. The change continues the broader reduction seen across several National Savings instruments during the latest rate revision. The RIC is designed to provide regular returns to investors, making changes in its profit rate relevant to savers who rely on National Savings products for recurring income.
National Savings also reduced returns on the Special Savings Certificate (SSC) and Special Savings Account (SSA). Both instruments were revised effective September 10, 2026, with their profit rates cut by 30 basis points to 10.90%. Previously, both products carried a profit rate of 11.20%. The simultaneous adjustment places these two instruments among the products that experienced a smaller reduction compared with the 36-basis-point cuts applied to several other accounts and certificates.
Despite the widespread reductions, the latest revision also included increases for selected products. The Short Term Savings Certificate (STSC), effective September 9, recorded an 11-basis-point increase in its profit rate, taking it to 11.28% from 11.17%. The increase distinguishes the short-tenor certificate from most of the other instruments covered by the latest rate changes and provides savers using the product with a higher return than under the previous schedule.
Islamic savings products under the Sarwa range also recorded higher rates. The Sarwa Islamic Savings Account (SISA), effective September 10, and the Sarwa Islamic Term Account (SITA), effective September 11, both for one-year tenors, saw their profit rates increase by 15 basis points. Their rates rose to 11.25% from 11.10%. The upward adjustment means that Islamic savings products were among the few instruments to post an increase during the latest National Savings revision.
The latest changes reflect a mixed movement in National Savings returns, with conventional certificates and accounts largely experiencing cuts while selected short-term and Islamic products received increases. The revisions apply from their respective effective dates, meaning savers and investors using National Savings instruments will see returns based on the newly announced rates.
