NIBAF Pakistan conducted a specialized technical training session on Cyber Security for officers of the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) at its Karachi Campus on August 18, 2026. The session was designed to strengthen the understanding of cyber security risks among central banking professionals and provide participants with practical insights into emerging digital threats, security architecture, incident detection and strategic risk mitigation.
The training session brought together SBP officers at the NIBAF Pakistan Karachi Campus, with Mr. Ahmed Faraz serving as the facilitator. The specialized programme focused on key areas of cyber security that are increasingly relevant to financial institutions and central banking operations as digital systems, interconnected platforms and technology-enabled financial services continue to expand.
A major area covered during the session was the changing nature of emerging cyber threats. Participants were introduced to security challenges that can affect financial and institutional systems, with the training tailored specifically to the requirements of professionals working in the central banking environment. The focus on emerging threats provided participants with a broader understanding of the risks associated with increasingly complex digital infrastructure.
The programme also addressed security architecture, an important component of protecting critical systems and institutional technology environments. The session provided SBP officers with insights into the role of structured security frameworks in strengthening digital infrastructure and improving an organisation’s ability to identify and respond to potential security risks.
Incident detection was another key focus of the technical training. The session examined the importance of identifying potential security incidents and responding to threats in a timely manner. For financial institutions and central banking operations, effective detection capabilities are important for limiting the potential impact of cyber incidents and maintaining the security of sensitive systems and information.
The training further covered strategic risk mitigation, with discussions tailored to the professional requirements of central banking officers. The focus on risk mitigation aimed to strengthen participants’ understanding of measures that can help organisations prepare for cyber security challenges and improve their overall security posture.
The specialised programme reflects the importance of continued professional development in cyber security for banking and financial sector institutions. As financial services increasingly depend on digital infrastructure, cyber security has become an important area for institutional preparedness, particularly for organisations responsible for maintaining stability and oversight within the financial system.
NIBAF Pakistan’s Karachi Campus hosted the session as part of its professional training activities for banking sector stakeholders. By focusing the programme specifically on SBP officers, the training addressed cyber security from the perspective of central banking professionals and their responsibilities within a technology-dependent financial environment.
The participation of Mr. Ahmed Faraz as facilitator provided technical direction to the session, which brought together topics ranging from emerging cyber threats and security architecture to incident detection and strategic risk mitigation. The specialised nature of the programme was intended to provide participants with knowledge relevant to the cyber security challenges faced by modern financial institutions.
The session held on August 18 forms part of the broader need for specialised technical capacity within Pakistan’s financial sector. With banking operations increasingly supported by digital platforms and technology infrastructure, strengthening professional understanding of cyber security risks remains an important part of maintaining secure financial systems.
Through such specialised training programmes, NIBAF Pakistan continues to provide professional learning opportunities for banking sector personnel, with the latest session focusing on cyber security requirements relevant to SBP officers. The Karachi Campus session brought together technical learning and central banking requirements, covering key areas that can support greater awareness of cyber risks and institutional security practices.
