NIBAF Pakistan Conducts Regulatory Training On Fair Treatment Of Banking Consumers

NIBAF Pakistan conducted a regulatory training session on Business Conduct and Fair Treatment of Consumers Regulatory Framework at its Karachi Campus on August 20, 2026. The session focused on the regulatory requirements surrounding business conduct, consumer protection and fair treatment within the banking sector, bringing together officers from State Bank of Pakistan, Banking Services Corporation and commercial banks.

The training was conducted through a face to face format at the NIBAF Pakistan Karachi Campus, providing participants with an opportunity to examine regulatory expectations and their application across banking products and services. The session was facilitated by Ms. Kanwal Hanif from the Banking Policy and Regulations Department of State Bank of Pakistan.

The training focused on the importance of maintaining fair treatment of consumers throughout their interactions with financial institutions. Participants were provided with insights into the State Bank of Pakistan’s Conduct Governance Framework and the standards expected from financial institutions when dealing with customers.

Consumer protection was another key area covered during the session. The training examined standards intended to ensure that customers receive appropriate treatment when accessing banking products and services. The discussions also addressed the importance of transparency and responsible conduct in maintaining confidence between financial institutions and their customers.

The session also covered grievance redressal mechanisms, an important component of consumer protection within the financial sector. Participants gained an understanding of how grievance related requirements can be incorporated into banking operations and how financial institutions can respond to consumer concerns through appropriate processes.

A further focus of the training was the operationalisation of Fair Treatment of Consumers guidelines across banking products and services. The session provided participants with practical insights into applying the relevant regulatory framework within their respective institutions and incorporating consumer protection principles into day to day banking activities.

The participation of officers from State Bank of Pakistan, Banking Services Corporation and commercial banks brought together representatives from different parts of the banking system. This allowed the training to address business conduct and consumer protection from the perspective of regulatory requirements as well as their implementation within banking institutions.

The regulatory session forms part of NIBAF Pakistan’s efforts to strengthen professional knowledge and regulatory understanding within the financial industry. By focusing on business conduct, consumer protection, transparency and grievance redressal, the programme addressed areas that directly affect the relationship between banks and their customers.

NIBAF Pakistan stated that ethical banking, regulatory compliance and consumer protection remain important elements of a strong financial system. The institution continues to conduct specialised learning programmes aimed at developing regulatory and professional capabilities among financial sector participants.

The training on Business Conduct and Fair Treatment of Consumers therefore provided participating officers with a detailed understanding of the relevant regulatory framework and its application to banking operations. The programme also highlighted the role of financial institutions in maintaining appropriate standards of conduct while ensuring that consumer interests are considered across banking products and services.
