State Bank of Pakistan Business Confidence Index Rises to 52.4 in July 2026

Commercial sentiment across Pakistan recorded a noticeable recovery as the national Business Confidence Index advanced by 4.2 points to reach 52.4 in July 2026. According to the latest results of the Business Confidence Survey jointly administered by the State Bank of Pakistan and the Institute of Business Administration, positive momentum spread across both industrial manufacturing and service sector enterprises. The survey sampled 479 corporate respondents between July 1 and July 15, 2026, capturing a widespread shift toward optimism regarding current operations and upcoming economic activity.

A closer look at individual sector dynamics reveals that industrial confidence experienced the strongest upward push during the evaluation period. The Business Confidence Index for the industrial sector climbed 5.6 points to settle at 51.7. Simultaneously, the services sector index gained 3.9 points to touch 52.7, maintaining its position above the neutral benchmark threshold. This dual expansion points to broader operational stability following several quarters of heightened cost pressures and demand fluctuations.

Evaluating past performance, the Current Business Confidence Index, which tracks overall economic conditions over the preceding six months, increased by 5.4 points to reach 49.6. Although the current score remains slightly below the neutral threshold of 50 points, the upward trajectory indicates that operational stresses are steadily easing for commercial firms. Meanwhile, forward-looking sentiment showed even stronger gains. The Expected Business Confidence Index, which measures commercial expectations for the next six months, surged by 3.2 points to 55.3, demonstrating that business owners anticipate further improvements in market demand, supply chain stability, and overall macroeconomic clarity.

Operational activity across manufacturing and service value chains also showed steady gains in the latest survey wave. The Purchasing Managers Index edged up by 1.7 points to 51.9 in July 2026, extending its trajectory well into positive territory. All sub-components contributing to the purchasing index recorded measurable increases during the survey window. The business activity sub-index climbed to 51.1, while total employee sentiment improved to 49.8. Order books expanded to 52.3, raw material purchases rose to 54.1, and supplier delivery speed timelines improved to 52.3, confirming an active acceleration in industrial procurement and order fulfillment.

In tandem with improving activity metrics, corporate inflation expectations registered an encouraging drop. Businesses projected an aggregate inflation sentiment score of 7.0 in July 2026, down from 8.4 in the previous survey wave. The proportion of surveyed business managers who anticipate higher price levels over the coming months dropped to 66.9 percent compared to 69 percent previously. On a sector level, industrial inflation expectations dropped from 68.9 percent to 65.4 percent, while services sector inflation projections eased slightly from 69.2 percent to 68.2 percent, signaling that input price volatility is moderating.

Labor market indicators reflected a similar positive shift. The Current Employment Index rose to 52.1 in July 2026 from 50.1 in June, moving deeper into expansionary territory above the neutral threshold. Looking ahead, the Expected Employment Index also improved to 53.8 from 53.2 in the prior month, indicating that companies are preparing to expand hiring to meet anticipated market demand. Meanwhile, manufacturing capacity utilization experienced a minor adjustment, with average current capacity utilization easing slightly to 66.1 percent in July 2026 compared to 67.1 percent in the previous wave, representing a marginal shift that aligns with normal seasonal production adjustments.
