Finance Minister, Pakistan Digital Authority Discuss Capital Market Digitization And AI-Driven Data

Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb and Chairperson Pakistan Digital Authority Dr Sohail Munir discussed the use of technology to improve access to finance, strengthen capital market participation and support broader digital transformation across Pakistan’s economy.

The meeting focused on developing an enabling environment for digital finance and electronic transactions, with discussions covering the use of digital platforms, improved data sharing, financial interoperability and the integration of banking and capital market systems. The government emphasised the importance of ensuring that existing regulatory and institutional frameworks evolve alongside advancements in digital technology and emerging business models.

Muhammad Aurangzeb highlighted the need to use technology to simplify financial processes and make access to finance more efficient. He stressed that digital transformation should support wider participation in economic and financial activities while creating systems that are easier for businesses, investors and customers to use.

One of the key areas discussed was customer onboarding. The finance minister highlighted the importance of simplifying account-opening and onboarding procedures through digital platforms. More efficient processes could make it easier for individuals and businesses to access financial services while reducing procedural barriers associated with traditional methods.

The meeting also examined the importance of stronger data-sharing mechanisms and greater interoperability of financial information. Better-connected financial data could improve coordination between different parts of the financial system and enable institutions to exchange relevant information more efficiently. Greater integration between banks and capital markets was identified as another area with potential to improve access to investment opportunities.

Capital market digitization was an important part of the discussions. The participants considered measures that could encourage wider participation in capital markets through digital platforms and streamlined account-opening processes. Stronger connections between banking systems and capital market infrastructure could make it easier for customers to participate in investment activities and access financial products.

The discussions also addressed the use of data across government systems. Muhammad Aurangzeb highlighted the potential of improved data connectivity to support policy formulation, economic planning and government decision-making. Better use of data can provide policymakers with more timely and connected information, allowing technology to play a larger role in planning and the delivery of public services.

Artificial Intelligence was also discussed as a potential tool for improving the use of government and financial data. The participants considered how greater use of AI could support analysis, planning and decision-making when combined with stronger data infrastructure. The discussion reflects the growing role of AI in efforts to improve the efficiency of digital systems and make better use of available information.

The meeting further covered digital infrastructure required to improve the delivery of public and financial services. The finance minister stressed that digital initiatives should remain practical and scalable while supporting the country’s broader digital transformation objectives. This approach places emphasis on developing systems that can be expanded while addressing real operational requirements across government and financial institutions.

Digital assets and tokenization were also part of the discussion. Muhammad Aurangzeb and Dr Sohail Munir exchanged views on potential applications of tokenization in areas such as real estate and other investment assets. The discussion also highlighted the importance of establishing an appropriate framework and supporting mechanisms to encourage responsible adoption of emerging technologies.

Tokenization could create new digital approaches for representing and managing certain investment assets, but its wider adoption would require suitable regulatory and technological infrastructure. The discussion indicates that the government is considering the potential role of emerging digital asset technologies within the broader development of Pakistan’s financial and digital ecosystem.

Muhammad Aurangzeb appreciated the work being undertaken by the Pakistan Digital Authority and emphasised the importance of focusing on practical, high-impact initiatives. He said digital initiatives should contribute to improved efficiency, greater access to finance and stronger digital capabilities across the economy.

The finance minister also stressed the need for sustained coordination among relevant stakeholders to advance digital initiatives. Collaboration between government institutions, financial organisations and technology stakeholders will remain important as Pakistan works to expand digital financial services and improve the underlying infrastructure supporting the digital economy. The discussions reflect a broader government focus on using digital technology to improve financial access and economic activity. Greater interoperability between banking and capital market systems, stronger data-sharing mechanisms and more streamlined digital processes could create additional opportunities for individuals and businesses to participate in the formal financial system.

The meeting also highlights the growing connection between financial technology, artificial intelligence, digital assets and capital market development. As Pakistan continues to develop its digital economy, the integration of these areas could influence how financial services, investment platforms and government systems operate. The government and Pakistan Digital Authority will therefore continue to coordinate on initiatives aimed at strengthening digital infrastructure, improving financial access and supporting the responsible adoption of emerging technologies. The focus remains on developing practical digital systems that can improve efficiency while supporting broader economic and financial participation.
