NIBAF Hosts PSPC Leadership Session on Pakistan’s Energy Mix and Electrical Network

The National Institute of Banking and Finance (NIBAF) Pakistan organized a specialized technical session titled “Energy Mix & Electrical Network of PSPC” under the PSPC Leadership Induction Program (PLIP) – Batch-3. The session was held on 02 February 2026 at the NIBAF Pakistan Islamabad campus and was designed to strengthen participants’ understanding of Pakistan’s power sector landscape alongside the operational framework of Pakistan State Power Company (PSPC).

The session formed part of NIBAF’s broader leadership development efforts aimed at equipping professionals with sector-specific knowledge that supports informed decision-making and strategic leadership. As Pakistan’s energy sector continues to undergo structural and technological changes, understanding the dynamics of energy generation, transmission, and distribution has become increasingly relevant for leaders across both financial and infrastructure-linked institutions.

The technical session was facilitated by Mr. Umair Malik, Deputy Manager at PSPC, who provided participants with a comprehensive overview of the national energy mix and the electrical network that supports power delivery across the country. His presentation focused on how different energy sources contribute to Pakistan’s overall power generation portfolio, including thermal, hydropower, and other emerging sources, and how these sources are integrated into the national grid.

Participants were introduced to the structure and functioning of Pakistan’s electrical network, covering key elements of power generation, transmission, and distribution. The session highlighted the complexity of managing a nationwide power system and the operational coordination required to ensure reliability, efficiency, and continuity of supply. This overview enabled participants to better understand the technical and operational challenges faced by the power sector.

A significant part of the discussion focused on PSPC’s operational framework and its role within the broader energy ecosystem. The facilitator explained how PSPC aligns its operations with national energy policies, regulatory requirements, and sectoral priorities. By linking technical concepts with institutional responsibilities, the session helped participants contextualize the role of PSPC in supporting energy security and system stability.

The session also explored key challenges and opportunities within Pakistan’s power sector, including demand growth, infrastructure constraints, and the need for system optimization. Participants gained insight into how evolving energy needs, coupled with technological advancements, are shaping the future of power generation and distribution. This understanding is particularly important for leaders who may engage with energy-related projects, financing, or policy implementation.

The interactive nature of the session allowed participants to engage directly with the facilitator, ask questions, and discuss real-world scenarios related to energy planning and network operations. This exchange of perspectives enhanced learning outcomes and supported a more practical understanding of the subject matter, aligning with the objectives of the PSPC Leadership Induction Program.

By hosting this session under PLIP Batch-3, NIBAF Pakistan reaffirmed its role in developing leadership capacity through targeted, sector-focused learning initiatives. The program aims to prepare participants to navigate complex operational environments by equipping them with knowledge that extends beyond traditional functional boundaries.

The session on Energy Mix & Electrical Network of PSPC concluded with a broader appreciation of the interdependence between energy infrastructure, institutional performance, and national development goals. Through such initiatives, NIBAF continues to contribute to building informed leadership capable of addressing Pakistan’s evolving energy and infrastructure challenges while identifying opportunities for sustainable growth.
