NIBAF Pakistan is set to conduct a two-day executive training programme focused on international trade regulations, regulatory compliance, trade-based money laundering avoidance and adjudication penalties. The programme, titled “International Trade Parameters: Regulatory Compliance with TBML Avoidance and Adjudication Penalties,” will be held at the NIBAF Pakistan Karachi Campus from September 29 to 30, 2026.
The training will run from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM on both days, with the programme designed to provide participants with a detailed understanding of regulatory requirements connected with international trade and banking transactions. NIBAF Pakistan has set the training investment at PKR 36,000 plus applicable tax per participant, with September 28, 2026, set as the final date for nominations.
The programme is targeted at compliance officials, audit officials, trade managers, importers, exporters and banking professionals responsible for State Bank of Pakistan reporting. Particular attention will be given to risks associated with overdue payments, anti-money laundering and know-your-customer requirements, as well as regulatory penalties arising from non-compliance.
The training will be facilitated by Raees Ahmed, a banking and regulatory professional with more than 36 years of experience at the State Bank of Pakistan. His professional background covers foreign exchange, international trade, banking inspection, surveillance and exchange policy, providing him with extensive exposure to regulatory requirements affecting banks and businesses engaged in cross-border trade.
Ahmed has expertise in trade finance, Uniform Customs and Practice for Documentary Credits, Uniform Rules for Collections, foreign exchange regulations, anti-money laundering and countering the financing of terrorism, trade-based money laundering, remittances, foreign currency accounts and trade compliance. His professional experience also includes involvement in important regulatory and trade-related initiatives.
During his career, Ahmed was associated with the Foreign Exchange Manual issued in 2002, the launch of Web-Based One Customs, the Asian Clearing Union and various statutory regulatory order and policy initiatives involving the State Bank of Pakistan, Ministry of Commerce, Customs and the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan. These assignments have provided him with experience across multiple parts of Pakistan’s international trade and regulatory framework.
Ahmed has also served as a trainer and resource person at leading banking and academic institutions. His academic and professional qualifications include a Master of Arts, Bachelor of Laws, Diploma in Associate Institute of Bankers Pakistan and Master of Business Administration in Banking and Finance. He currently practices as an Advocate of the High Courts and works as a corporate consultant.
The focus on trade-based money laundering reflects the importance of identifying and managing financial risks associated with international commercial transactions. Banks and businesses involved in imports and exports need to comply with applicable documentation, payment, foreign exchange and customer due diligence requirements. Effective compliance can help institutions reduce exposure to financial, operational and regulatory risks.
The programme will also address areas including State Bank of Pakistan reporting, foreign exchange rules, anti-money laundering and countering the financing of terrorism requirements, know-your-customer obligations and trade finance procedures. Participants will have the opportunity to examine these areas from a regulatory and practical perspective, particularly in relation to international trade transactions.
NIBAF Pakistan has invited eligible professionals to submit their nominations by September 28. Registration and further details are available through registration@nibaf.gov.pk and marketing@nibaf.org.pk. Participants can also contact 021-35277511 or 051-9269850 for information, while WhatsApp inquiries can be made at 0303 0652963.
The two-day programme is intended to strengthen participants’ understanding of international trade compliance and the regulatory responsibilities involved in cross-border financial activity. By bringing together banking professionals, trade officials, importers, exporters and compliance personnel, the training will address practical areas that are relevant to managing trade-related regulatory obligations.
