NIBAF Pakistan has successfully conducted a five-day specialized training programme focused on professional development in Islamic banking for commercial bank officers. The Islamic Banking Professional Development Program, designated IBPD-58, was held from September 21 to 25, 2026, at NIBAF Pakistan’s Lahore Campus. The programme was designed to provide banking professionals with practical knowledge covering Shariah compliance, business transformation and Islamic financing instruments relevant to the banking sector.
The five-day programme brought together commercial bank officers as its primary stakeholder group and provided participants with sessions led by professionals with experience in Islamic banking, business transformation and development-oriented finance. The structure of the programme divided the training across three facilitators, with each contributing expertise in a specific area of banking practice. This format allowed participants to engage with different aspects of Islamic banking and related financial services during the course of the programme.
Mufti Ammar Ashraf, Shariah Board Member at Buraq Digital Bank, facilitated the first two days of the training. His sessions focused on areas connected with Shariah compliance frameworks and their application within Islamic banking operations. Shariah governance and compliance remain central components of Islamic financial services, requiring banking professionals to understand the principles and frameworks that guide the development and delivery of Shariah-compliant products.
The third and fourth days were led by Imran Yousaf Sheikh, Head of Business Transformation at Faysal Bank. His sessions introduced participants to modern business transformation strategies and their relevance to banking operations. Business transformation has become an important area for financial institutions as banks adapt their processes, products and operating models to changing customer requirements, technology developments and competitive conditions across financial services.
The final day of IBPD-58 was facilitated by Mufti Uzair Usmani, Shariah Board Member at Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited (ZTBL). The fifth day focused on agricultural and developmental Islamic financing instruments, bringing a sector-specific perspective to the programme. The inclusion of agricultural and development finance in the training provided commercial bank officers with exposure to financing approaches relevant to economic activity and sectors where Islamic financial instruments can be applied.
NIBAF Pakistan said the comprehensive programme provided commercial banking officers with in-depth practical knowledge across Shariah compliance frameworks, modern business transformation strategies and agricultural and developmental Islamic financing instruments. By combining these areas within a single professional development programme, IBPD-58 addressed both the principles governing Islamic banking and operational issues relevant to the changing requirements of financial institutions.
The training also brought together expertise from different parts of Pakistan’s banking and financial services landscape. Contributions from Buraq Digital Bank, Faysal Bank and ZTBL provided participants with perspectives from institutions operating in different areas of the financial sector. The involvement of facilitators serving on Shariah boards as well as a senior business transformation role created a programme covering regulatory and Shariah considerations alongside organizational and business development issues.
NIBAF Pakistan continues to conduct specialized programmes aimed at strengthening the technical capabilities of professionals working across financial services. The completion of IBPD-58 forms part of these professional development activities, with the five-day Lahore programme giving commercial bank officers an opportunity to develop their understanding of Islamic banking practices and related areas. The institute said it remains committed to expanding technical capabilities and supporting the professional development of banking and financial services personnel.
