The National Institute of Banking and Finance Pakistan has announced a practical full-day training workshop titled Managing Shariah Board Secretariat, scheduled to take place at its Karachi campus on August 6, 2026. The specialized program is designed to equip Islamic banking professionals, compliance officers, and secretarial staff with hands-on tools, frameworks, and operational templates required to align institutional workflows with regulatory governance standards. As Islamic banking operations continue to expand across the national financial landscape, establishing robust secretarial and oversight mechanisms remains central to maintaining administrative transparency, compliance integrity, and institutional accountability.
The workshop addresses core operational functions of the Shariah Board Secretariat, which serves as the primary administrative engine for Shariah governance across Islamic banking institutions. Participants will review practical aspects of managing board meetings, structuring agendas, drafting official resolutions, and maintaining comprehensive records of Fatwas alongside their underlying rationale for audit and compliance evaluation. In addition, the curriculum covers effective coordination strategies across internal audit, product development, human resources, and risk management departments, ensuring seamless communication without compromising governance independence or operational objectivity.
The training session will be led by seasoned industry experts with extensive practical experience across legal affairs, corporate governance, and Islamic financial engineering. Syed Muhammad Talib Raza, Company Secretary and Head of Legal at JS Bank Limited, will serve as a lead facilitator, bringing two decades of corporate governance and regulatory compliance experience to the session. Co-facilitating the workshop is Muhammed Irfan Ahmed, Head of the Shariah Compliance Department at BankIslami Pakistan, who brings twenty years of specialized expertise in pool management, deposit structuring, and Islamic capital market instruments.
By providing actionable tools such as governance trackers, meeting calendars, operational checklists, and draft secretariat manual templates, NIBAF Pakistan aims to help participating institutions elevate governance standards and streamline regulatory workflows. Interested organizations and industry practitioners can submit nominations through official institute channels prior to the final registration deadline on August 5, 2026. The initiative reflects ongoing efforts across the domestic financial sector to enhance institutional capabilities, support workforce specialization, and reinforce market trust in Islamic financial infrastructure.
