Haroon Akhtar Appointed Adviser To PM With Federal Minister Status

Haroon Akhtar has been appointed Adviser to the Prime Minister with the status of Federal Minister, with immediate effect, according to a notification issued by the Cabinet Division. The appointment has been made by the President under the powers conferred by clause (1) of Article 93 of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.

Following the appointment, Haroon Akhtar has been assigned the portfolio of Industries and Production in his capacity as Adviser to the Prime Minister. The Cabinet Division’s notification formally establishes his new responsibilities and grants him the status of Federal Minister while serving as an adviser to the Prime Minister.

The appointment represents a change in Haroon Akhtar’s position within the federal government. Before being appointed Adviser to the Prime Minister, he was serving as Special Assistant to the Prime Minister. Consequent upon his latest appointment, he will cease to hold the office of Special Assistant to the Prime Minister.

The Cabinet Division has also clarified the status of earlier notifications concerning Haroon Akhtar’s previous position. Notifications issued by the Division on February 27 and March 7, 2025, have been superseded to the extent relating to his appointment as Special Assistant to the Prime Minister.

The Industries and Production portfolio places Haroon Akhtar in charge of a federal government area linked to Pakistan’s industrial and manufacturing sectors. The portfolio covers matters relating to industrial development and production, making the position relevant to the broader economic and business environment of the country.

The appointment comes through a formal constitutional process under Article 93, which provides the framework for the appointment of advisers to the Prime Minister. By assigning Federal Minister status to Haroon Akhtar, the notification also establishes the official standing attached to his new role within the federal government.

As Adviser to the Prime Minister on Industries and Production, Haroon Akhtar will now serve in a role focused on the federal government’s responsibilities relating to the industrial and production sectors. His appointment replaces his previous role as Special Assistant to the Prime Minister and marks a change in his official responsibilities within the federal administration.

The notification issued by the Cabinet Division confirms that the appointment takes effect immediately. It also formally records the transition from his former position and assigns the Industries and Production portfolio to his new advisory role.

The development adds a new appointment at the federal level involving the Industries and Production portfolio, an area that remains closely connected with industrial activity, manufacturing and the broader business environment. Haroon Akhtar will now serve as Adviser to the Prime Minister with Federal Minister status under the newly notified arrangement.
