NIBAF Pakistan conducted a specialized soft skills session on Emotional Intelligence for officers participating in the State Bank Officers Training Scheme (SBOTS-28) at its Islamabad Campus. The session was held on August 19, 2026, and focused on strengthening interpersonal and professional capabilities that can support officers in handling workplace responsibilities, managing challenging situations and making effective decisions within the banking environment. The programme was facilitated by Syed Sajid Ali, Former Director of NIBAF Pakistan, who led the interactive module for the participating officers.
The Emotional Intelligence module was designed to develop essential professional skills including self awareness, empathy and interpersonal communication. These capabilities are particularly relevant for banking professionals who regularly work with colleagues, customers, institutions and other stakeholders in environments where effective communication and sound judgment are important. The session provided participants with an opportunity to examine how emotional awareness can influence workplace interactions and professional decision making.
A key focus of the training was helping officers understand their own emotions and responses in professional situations. Developing self awareness can allow individuals to recognize how their emotions may affect communication, behavior and judgment, particularly when dealing with demanding circumstances. The session encouraged participants to consider how greater awareness of their own reactions can support more measured responses and stronger professional relationships.
The programme also placed emphasis on empathy and interpersonal skills. Banking professionals frequently operate in collaborative environments where effective teamwork and communication are essential to achieving organizational objectives. The session addressed the importance of understanding different perspectives and responding appropriately to the needs of colleagues and other stakeholders. Strengthening these skills can contribute to more effective workplace interactions and support a collaborative professional culture.
Managing workplace stress was another important area covered during the module. Banking roles can involve tight deadlines, complex responsibilities and situations requiring decisions under pressure. The training focused on ways officers can manage stress while maintaining professional conduct and clarity of thought. Developing the ability to remain composed in demanding situations can help professionals respond more effectively to workplace challenges.
The session also addressed decision making in high pressure professional settings. Participants were encouraged to consider the relationship between emotional responses and decision making, with an emphasis on maintaining balance and applying rational judgment when facing difficult circumstances. For future banking leaders, the ability to evaluate situations carefully while managing emotional pressures can be an important component of effective leadership and institutional performance.
The interactive nature of the module allowed SBOTS-28 officers to engage with the subject beyond theoretical discussion. Through the session, participants were able to explore practical aspects of emotional intelligence and its relevance to professional life. The focus on self awareness, empathy, stress management and balanced decision making provided a broader perspective on the soft skills required alongside technical knowledge in the banking sector.
The programme forms part of NIBAF Pakistan’s efforts to support the professional development of officers preparing for careers within the banking and financial sector. Training initiatives under the State Bank Officers Training Scheme are designed to equip participants with knowledge and capabilities relevant to their future responsibilities. Soft skills development is an important component of this preparation because banking professionals are required to communicate effectively, work with diverse teams and make decisions in complex institutional environments.
The Emotional Intelligence session at NIBAF Pakistan’s Islamabad Campus therefore provided SBOTS-28 officers with focused training on skills that can influence their professional effectiveness and leadership capabilities. Facilitated by Syed Sajid Ali, the module combined professional development with practical considerations related to workplace relationships, stress management and decision making.
NIBAF Pakistan continues to conduct specialized learning and development programmes for banking professionals and officers. The SBOTS-28 session demonstrates the institution’s focus on developing capabilities that extend beyond technical banking knowledge, with particular attention to the interpersonal and behavioral skills required for effective performance in the financial sector.
